This one implies they projected above and below the wing.

This one says they were also fitted to FW 190's

Getting interesting.

From all I know and have read it wasn't used "operationally" but on a  test fight. I never saw a picture and don't think one exists but I would assume the units were somehow fitted into the space where the Mk103 usually is, which were removed for weight and space I'd presume.

EDIT: actually just like in this link:

(thanks, Stainless)

The pilot was flying the Me-163 low under a blanket which was tied to high masts. (does this sound suicidal? I does...) The shadow of the blanket triggered a photo sensor which ignited the Jägerfaust pack. In a real operation this would be the shadow of a bomber.

Hits on the blanket were scored but the flight was almost ending in disaster because the pilot could barely keep control of the plane after firing. The idea was disbanded or at least never tried again. Probably sent back to the drawing boards for fine tuning but it never left that stage again.

The Jägerfaust was used operationally and excessively in tests with the 163.
Here is a thread which, among others, also shows the installation of the Jägerfaust:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=33183.0

The only issue was that the optical release mechanism also got triggered e.g. by dark clouds, which in one case during a demonstration in front of luftwaffe representatives caused the Jägerfaust to fire (and detonate) prematurely, inflicting serious damage on the shooting 163.

Other than that, all results of SG 500 trials showed exceptionally good results.

Best regards - Mike

Just to put it out there:

While the whole "tow the Me-163 to altitude" isn't really doable in a pure form, it's easy enough to fake in the FMB:

Just airstart your 163 behind the towing plane at altitude, with throttle fully retarded for "realism" (i.e., not starting at full rocket power)

Yeah, it isn't perfect, but some of the best gimmicks that have been put in Il-2 missions are little more than this, creative tricks.

Sure, it's stating the obvious, but it is an option for mission makers in lieu of glider code additions.

As an appendum, the Jagerfaust as an added loadout for the Me-163 would be a great idea, in all honesty....

A little late but just for interest Eric Brown states that Tow test were carried out in England towed by a Spitfire 9. Unstick speed was 105mph and contol was stable at 135mph. I assume this was 'dry & empty'. The tow to height was if ample warning was given, the me163 would then zoom & glide down on targets using guns and/or a battery of rockets. This was to be repeated until fuel or ammunition was spent.
This was only a 'what if' idea, I doubt that it was ever implimented.

I find all of this very interesting. Now just to "fly" that dang thing! Have it for Il-2 '46 and CFS3. A challenge to fight with !
