Changing maps in DCG to BAT maps
« on: October 31, 2017, 03:44:37 PM »

Hey all

Not specifically related to BAT, but as I run BAT it's pertinent so I thought I'd post in this sub-forum.

I am currently running a DCG Normandy 44 campaign with Typhoons.

DCG uses the stock Normandy map as I understand it.

Is there an easy way of changing that map to the CanonUK/TBauchot Channel map so that the missions start in the UK and I fly over the channel to Normandy, instead of starting on that silly fictional island?

Thanks in advance.

Raven;
While it would be relatively easy to tell DCG to use the Channel map you wouldn't be able to use the same campaign.
Each map, depending on how it was created, has it's own set of coordinates but those coordinates aren't the same for every map.  So the coordinates for all the waypoints in your Normandy campaign would not work for the Channel map.
For example:
A waypoint of 100.000 100.000 might be right over the little island on the Normandy map but those same coordinates might be over Dieppe in the Channel map or not on the map at all and the campaign wouldn't work or load.

In short: you can't use the same campaign missions from map to map as the waypoints/coordinates wouldn't work.
Not the answer you wanted I guess.  However, if you search in the Campaigns section here or over at Mission4today.com you might find a similar campaign using the Channel map or the WesternFront44 map.

Some of the other experts here might be able to suggest an alternate solution.

OK thanks.

It's a bit of a moot point anyhow now.  I upgraded to BAT Angels High and went to play my Normandy44 DCG campaign and noted that I was starting in the air, with the engine off!

So I deleted the campaign and restarted it in DCG...

...now however all that happens is that the Tiffy's blow up on spawn (any plane I choose does)!!

I've got a third party DCG BoB campaign that seems to be working OK so far though.

Raven;
ackd.  One of the risks of using campaigns in different mod versions is that the DCG campaign, if created in an earlier or non-modded version, will have Object data/info that may not exist in a later/modded version which can cause some of the issues you cite here.

For example,  the Tiffy exploding on spawn could be something along the lines of the ordnance it's carrying.  That ordnance doesn't exist in your modded version or has been modded itself.
Try the same mission with 'default' in your ammo and if that doesn't work try an aircraft that you know is 'stock'.  If your mission starts OK after one or both of those changes then I'd put money on there being an object/mod conflict.

The general rule is that if a campaign is created in one version of IL2 it may not necessarily work in another version.  The main reason is (but not limited to) the possibility of objects/mods not existing and DCG creates a mission using data from the version used when the campaign was created but that same data may be missing or changed in the modded game.  Clear as mud???  ;)

As tomoose said, there are no guarantees that a DCG campaign created for a mod works in another mod. DCG uses a master mission file to determine every unit present on the campaign. If there is a unit in the master mission file that is not available in the game, the campaign simply will not work.

Changing map in a campaign is possible, but very difficult and by no means worth the effort. It is much easier to create a new campaign from a scratch.

Quite clear actually.  ]thumbsup[  Totally understand the concept - obviously if something changes the game then a mission is likely to throw a fit and just not work.

Just wondering now what in Angels High broke, for me, the stock DCG Normany 44 campaign, seeing as it appeared to be working in Operation Sealion.  It simply does not work for me with any plane I choose.

I'll have a further play around and see if I can use a stock plane.  I tried the loadout thing because I recalled reading elsewhere that could be a problem, tried all possible loadouts available in the game including default and that didn't solve the problem.

A little bit miffed because Tiffys/Tempests over Normandy doesn't seem to get much attention from campaign makers and the amount of campaigns that actually work "out of the box" in BAT seems to be diminishing (at least I'm finding it is)...

some loadouts were modified in 3.2 with the introduction of an armament mod. IIRC P-47 and P-51 was affected.
maybe somewhere in there threw it.

and for the record, as a campaign builder myself, I feel your pain about compatibilty.
But I can help myself with any campaign you throw at me. Not everyone can.

Seriously, if you are into WW2 stock campaigns but want a mod pack with fancy upgrades for it? Go with adding VP Modpack to your BAT.
It's worth it in that particular case and not that difficult!

Thanks for that Vampire Pilot.  I've taken a look and I'd kind of like to keep everything WW2 under one roof.

Oddly, since doing a fresh BAT install, to resolve another issue, I've been able to start a Normandy 44 DCG campaign.  I didn't however select the Tempest/Typhoon to begin with though, I generated it having selected the stock Hurricane.  Seems to be working so far but I haven't finished the 1st mission and tried generating the next mission...
