New Mexico Base Textures complete
« on: December 27, 2017, 06:55:39 PM »

I haven't put out a WIP thread for a very long time  :-[

Since we haven't had a lot of U.S. maps come through The SAS recently except for Alaska thought I'd throw this map out to let members know it is being worked on.  ;D

The map covers a wide area Roswell, Carlsbad, Alamogordo, White Sands Missile Range, Trinity Site, Demming, and Fort Summer.

Roswell A.A.F

Still working on Roswell AAF  ;D
All textures will be from the area.

A lot of good sites to check out below

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Mexico_World_War_II_Army_Airfields
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Sands_Missile_Range

http://www.angelfire.com/dc/jinxx1/509thBW/509thBW.html
http://www.airfields-freeman.com/NM/Airfields_NM_Roswell.htm

B-29's, B-50s, B-47s to B-52s  ;D :D

Looking at this project from a historical point of view if ya'll want to discuss the Roswell Incident in 47? not a problem.

Cheers Kirby

Roswell AAF mostly complete  ;D
Just have to add some electricity poles and Eugene's munitions mod and a lot of bomb storage
Roswell had a lot of emergency landing fields and have completed those as well.

Messing around with local textures  :D

There are now a lot of closed hangars to guess where the dead aliens are hidden in a few years time

Next Alamogordo White Sands Missile Range and Trinity Site

Thinking about population for towns etc.

Cheers,
Kirby

Alamogordo AAF

B-17s, B-24s, P-47 Thunderbolts

Alamogordo AAF 1944

In Game

White Sands

The map starts using Mount and Country Textures only.
I have a lot of extra slots in Lowland and Midland to use as random or painted on editions.

Cheers,
Kirby

Also two maps
44-45
47-current
Lot of changes ocurred in 1947 with the USAAF going to USAF lots of base name changes as well

example White Sands Gunnery Range during W.W.2 to White Sands Missile Range

Albuquerque AAF eventually Kirtland USAF  2 bases merged into one

1 USAAF base 1 civi field West Mesa Field TWA operated out of the civi field as did a lot of light civi aircraft after W.W. 2 Piper cubs galore

Albuquerque AAF B-17s and B-24s later B-29s

Albuquerque Airport became Albuquerque AAF as seen in the photos

West Mesa Field

In Game just completed have to place it and test it hope you like the overall shape was really tricky.
Just have to add some roads around some of the runways.

Next up
Albuquerque AAF

You've got the main pictures of  Albuquerque AAF and West Mesa (civilian) Field above

They are both now complete and in game  :D ;)

Albuquerque AAF

Heightened security for a rumored top secret project VIP scientists are being flown in to the civi airport part of the base then transferred to Los Alamos

During W.W. 2  early B-10 Bolo's, AT 11 Kansan(training), mid mostly B-17s and B-24s then late war B-29's

When it became Kirtland USAF it had a mix of interesting aircraft

B-29 Superfortress, C-45 Expeditors, C-47s, B-25 Mitchells, L-5s, C-46 Commando, F-80 Shooting Star, F-51 Black Widow, AT 11 Kansan (bomber training) and F-39 Airacomet

West Mesa Civilian Field

Forgive me I am running an old C-47 mod I have just re-added CY6's Gooney Bird /Puff The Magic Dragon C-47 upgrade for other purposes.

Give me a couple of weeks with White Sands Gunnery Range.
It will be very well camoflaged

During W.W. 2 the Tiny Tim, some unusual artillery and you could possibly say the Flying Pancake could have been tested there. The Pancake would definitely be the first ufo in the area.

Messing with texture nothing is definitive as yet.
Considering populating for towns
2 rivers to make

Two Weeks White Sands Gunnery Range

Cheers,
Kirby

Thanks a bunch, this looks great!! I'm excited because it's not far from where I live. It would definitely be cool to have a little population in the bigger towns. I'm curious as to what the 2 rivers are, I'm assuming one is the Rio Grande. They probably don't look very big from the air but I don't know about in the 40's.
