FIDO homing torpedo--how to launch
« on: March 13, 2018, 06:41:25 PM »

I have tried to find a guide, but just can't figure it out.

Would anyone happen to know how to launch homing torpedoes?  Is there a guide I should know about?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Homing torpedos ?
For these torpedoes it's very simple: align yourself towards a moving target... even if it's approximate.
And then... shoot and forget!
It's valid in 409 so I guess it's the same for all versions.
The only difference for the Imperialists:
- appropriate aircraft speed
- appropriate aircraft altitude

For these data I let an Imperialist answer you.

That is the question:  what altitude, what speed?

you could try this taken from wiki,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_24_mine

General characteristics
Diameter: 19 inches (46 cm).
Length: 84 inches (2.13 m).
Weight: 680 lb (308 kg).
Warhead: 92 lb (41.7 kg) HBX high explosive.
Propulsion: 5 hp (3.7 kW) electric motor driving a single propeller, powered by a 48 volt lead acid battery.
Speed and endurance: 12 knots for 10 minutes, giving a range of about 4,000 yards (3,700 m)
Homing system: 4 piezoelectric hydrophones operating at 24 kHz and vacuum tube signal processing system with proportional steering.
Maximum drop altitude: 200 to 300 ft (60 m to 90 m)
Maximum aircraft launch speed: 120 knots (220 km/h).

and just to pass the time here is how it works.
