Merged map MonteCassino_Anzio

Hello. I got interested in map modding some time ago. To get started i decided to merge the Monte Cassino and the Anzio map, as these both maps are touching the same theatre. After a first version now the final map is online.

Changes:
New ed_m maps
Maps t, h and c merged, cut, amended and reworked here and there
Maps t mostly aligned
A lot of rural objects deleted to keep the actors.static in size
A few airports added
Populated the unpopulatet outer edges of both map parts with reconstructed autopop files
A lot of minor changes (That wasn't nessesary, but ...)

Also fixed meanwhile: Some flaws with parking positons for the AI.

Both maps seem to be from old days and so also the merged one should work with any mod installation. I did not add newer objects.

The map ist best with forrest = 3

BAT Installation:

Throw the mapmods folder within the 7z file into your #waw3 directory (or any other #directory).

Add to your all.ini  (\#waw3\mapmods\maps  or other #directory):
MonteCassino_Anzio        MonteCassino_Anzio/load.ini 

You may also add to your maps property file (\#waw3\mapmods\i18n or other #directory):
MonteCassino_Anzio      Mediterranean MonteCassino_Anzio - Zipzapp/Nowekat

The map is finished, i think again, but for some reason i can't open a new topic at the MTO maps, so i post it here.

NICE!
But..doggonit! I just finished a video about bombing the Monastery at Monte Cassino and I was gonna leave Italy and take my B-26 squadron back to Normandy,
but I guess I'll check this out and do a couple more missions in Italy. Operation Strangle is ON!

By the way... I did not know there was a map of Anzio... have I forgotten something ?

The Anzio map is listed in the vpmedia installations all.ini, but i extracted the files from BAT00\BAT28sfs and the load.ini is found in BAT00\BAT45.sfs and 53.sfs. It's mostly a Monte Cassino map with Anzio and without Monte Cassino ;-), so merging them was possible with some bending.

Nice to see an Italy-related map with the places in the correct geographic locations (relatively speaking), LOL.  Good job.

It's a nice addition! About some improvements which can be made but maybe it is not easy:
Some of the textures are low resolution and some (at least one) is not blending well with the others. I'm sure the map will be even more attractive  if something is done about these...
The Anzio and Monte Cassino original maps are by ZipZap, there's a lot of good stuff on it like rural areas densely populated, isolated farms etc., he was one of the first map modders to do this, and it brings life to maps...But the texturing can be improved...Also cities are a bit schematic, given that we talk about Italy, but it's hard to improve since the actors.static is very large.

Thanks for the friendly comments! Yes, you ar right, lowfighter. The towns don't look much "italian", i think also due to the lack of suitable buildings when the maps were made. On the other hand i like the idea of  dense populated towns. I had a look at some other maps. Some use much higher resolving textures, but is seems to be difficult to populate them, so they are a bit disappointing at a low level flight. But there a some buildings, which might be a little bit more italian. I will test, if i can swap them.

There are a lot of textures, but i didn't found any better "cultivated land" textures. Many maps stell use these old textures for that. Any ideas? A problem would be, the objects would not longer meet the textures.

All together this might mean a totaly retexturing an repopulation ;-)

I just downsized Mt_Ida_Peak2_Fields.tga from 24 bits (4 Mb) to 8 bits (1 Mb) ...  ;)

I think you are right, to much work to significantly improve the map.  ]banghead[
About the textures I thought that perhaps someone really good at image processing can 'sharpen' textures (in a smart way) or convert (in a smart way) the 512 textures to 1024some of the textures, also perhaps harmonize better the colors of different textures...I tried something like this a few months ago with Monte Cassino and I failed, but that was expected as I am no  image master...


Yes this I think is the most serious problem.....

A problem would be, the objects would not longer meet the textures.

I don't have any hi-res maps but if at all possible I would recommend that roads and railroads be more visible.  It's the one thing I find a bit unrealistic in almost all maps, the textured i.e. 'fake' roads show up better than the actual roads used by game objects.  I find the roads more difficult to see from altitude than they probably should be.
