Siege of Madrid - a DCG Campaign for BAT-TGA
« on: April 27, 2018, 01:31:25 PM »

A DCG campaign for SAS IL-2 B.A.T. mod pack by Von Ofterdingen (comments/bug reports are welcome at vonofterdingen@gmail.com)

Campaign Information
This campaign is based on the period from November 1936 to March 1939. In November 1936 Franco-led troops initiated a Nationalist offensive designed to take the capital and end the war. Outnumbered Nationalist forces entered the Casa de Campo park and from the start faced fanatical resistance from poorly trained and poorly armed Republican forces. Casualties were heavy on both sides as the Nationalists seized the park and tried to force their way across the Manzanares river into the city. At one point, the communist orator Dolores Ibarruri, known as "La Pasionara", arrived at a breakthrough and rallied the fleeing troops. At another time, General Miaja arrived at another breakthrough and exhorted the fleeing militia, "Cowards! Die in your trenches! Die with your General Miaja!" In both instances, the militia rallied and drove back the attackers, saving Madrid. Translated to Spanish, the cry of the French at Verdun, ¡ No Pasarán!(They shall not pass!) became the rallying cry of the city.

Though based on historical information, much of the gameplay is dynamic due to the nature of Lowengrin’s Dynamic Campaign Generator (DCG).

The following careers will be available:
Nation                   Aircraft(s)           Role
USSR   I-16                  Mosca           Russian Volunteer
USSR   I-15                  Chato           Russian Volunteer
Luftwaffe                   He51/BF-109*   Condor Legion
France                   Dewoitine 510   French Volunteer
Regia Aeronautica   CR-32           Aviazione Legionaria Volunteer
* If you select the He51 aircraft and squadron your squadron will be outfitted with BF-109 aircraft in February 1937.

Prerequisites & Compatibility

This campaign was written and tested using the SAS BAT mod pack and The Golden Age (TGA). For information, see: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,53512.0.html

You must have installed Lowengrin’s Dynamic Campaign Generator for IL-2 version 3.48 or later. To obtain DCG see the Lowengrin website: http://il2dcg.blogspot.ca/

If you are new to DCG and wish to install it, I highly recommend this installation and usage guide from Lonestar:  https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=20872.0

Installation and Settings
•  Decompress the Siege of Madrid.zip file and put the uncompressed Madrid_BAT folder into your DCG home directory.
• Copy the Paintschemes folder from the Siege of Madrid folder to your main game directory’s Paintschemes folder.
•  Make a backup of the DGEN directory in you IL-2 game directory.
•  Copy the DGEN folder from the Madrid_BAT \DGEN directory and paste it to the main game folder. If prompted to overwrite files, click Yes.
•  Start the DCG program. Select FileOptional Third Party Data Folder.
•  Navigate to the Madrid_BAT folder and select allcampaigns.dcg.
•  In the DCG main screen, select Mode  Off Line Career (Full Auto-Generation Mode) and Replace Career Generator (DGEN) in the drop-down menu.
•  Close DCG.
•  Start your IL-2 game. Be sure to choose The Golden Age in the Selector. Choose one of the Nation/Career/Aircraft/Squadron options listed above under Campaign Information and slick Start.
•  For best results, choose the squadron that is in the same ordinal position as the aircraft you select. For example, if you choose the second aircraft type in a list of three, choose the second squadron in the list as well. This will ensure that you receive the correct aircraft upgrades as they become available.

Compatibilities
This is a large and dynamic campaign; I have done testing, but testing a campaign of this scope is near-impossible. If you encounter difficulties, please notify me; solutions are usually available once I know the nature of the problem. Exploding planes on startup are the most common issue; if you encounter this please let me know (this is a problem that can be fixed with relative ease). I have created new Payload assignment files for this campaign, but as noted above it is hard to test all possible combinations.

Credits
Thanks to the SAS team for bringing us B.A.T., and Paul Lowengrin for the excellent DCG campaign generator. This campaign uses Agracier’s Madrid map.
I also used the following custom skins. If I have used a skin that you made but I could not identify the source, please let me know and I will update my credits/references. Aircraft/Skin:
•   Dewoitine 510: unknown
•   I-16 type 5: H-K
•   SB_2M100A: Tchaika
•   Fiat CR-32 Quater: Jaunmalapuente
•   SM-79i: unknown
•   HS-123: unknown

•   Vultee: Lederemagloire
•   Breda-Ba65: unknown
•   Hispano Nieuport NiD 52: unknown

I am personally much indebted to Scharnhorst and Lonestar for their wonderful tutorials on the use and scripting of DCG campaigns.

Nice one, vonofterdingen! There are just too little TGA campaigns around.

Believe or not, just yesterday I started to make a SCW DCG campaign myself.  ;D

Shakaali, I look forward to your campaign. I like this period and the planes that are in it. You probably have these things set already, but please feel free to use any of the files I have here to aid in you own campaign creation. Also. watch out for this issue:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,58450.0.html. The Opel trucks appear in columns as well.

That was a nice surprice vonofterdingen!  :)  :)

I've been preparing to maka a SCW campaign for DGen_Mod for a few years now, but with this campaign available I might not do it.  ;)
Does your campaign have historical accurate airfield locations/movements?

Best regards

No, I don't have historically accurate airfield locations/movements. I just did not happen to have that information available. I hope you will continue with your plan to do a DGEN campaign. We need more BAT campaigns for all the time periods.

I can share the squadron locations I have collected so far if you are interested.  ;)

I'm waiting for Asura to add some new nations to DGen_mod: Spanish Republic and Spain Nationalist and that will probably take some time....

Please do share the info you have. I found it difficult to find detailed SCW data. I have the same problem in DCG regarding nations: DCG does not recognize Spanish Nationalist or Republican either. That is why my careers are "Russian Volunteer," "French Volunteer," etc. I may or may not be able to use the location data that you have but others might.

No, it doesn't. However, there is a DCG trick to make any country almost work.

Let's say you would like to fly for Spanish Nationalists. Open up squadids.dcg. Under line:

Code: [Select]
g01                     <none>
add Spanish Nationalist squadrons, eg:

Code: [Select]
sp05                    Grupo 5
Then add sp05 to squadronsDE*.dat in DGEN and you can start a campaign selecting Grupo 5 from Luftwaffe roster. Pilots in your squadron speak Spanish and their markings are Spanish Nationalist. Unfortunately their names, ranks are medals are German.

Thanks for the heads up for Opel!
