Now that is astonishing! Really looking forward to flying over Kyushu, especially the carrier strikes of 1945. Congratulations WhiteCat, you are a very talented artist!

Thanks Peter!  8)

OK I adjusted a bit volcano colors and now I think overall looks less brownish / cartoonish, and they blend more naturally with the rest of the landscape, I think Lowfighter will like them :)

Wonderful job, those craters are amazing, and they would certainly look good on a map of the moon  8)

The nearest experience to the Moon I can offer you is my Iwo-Jima repaint, please select the Iwo-Jima Invasion version and enjoy 😂

OK, more tweaks to existing, and new volcanoes... getting there :D

I'll do more volcanoes probably but I covered the most important ones. Nice thing about having recognisable volcanoes is that you can navigate now around Kyushu almost without a map, they show quite well at long distances, especially when you fly high :) now starting to think about 3 difficult challenges: eliminating texture patterns in large flat areas, getting the right texture for cities, and populating them automatically..

Yufu-Dake volcano (first version, no final)

Unzen volcano (free interpretation :) no final maybe)

Fictional volcanic acid springs (I gave finally a good use to that weird hole in the mountains near Fukuoka created by Oleg&Co :) the original lake as you may know is in Yellowstone, although I am pretty sure that somewhere in the Japan islands must exist some similar volcanic lakes. I have seen pretty similar stuff in New Zealand too)

Mount Aso (pretty final version and quite near to the original)

Kirishima volcanoes (pretty final, and also quite close to the real ones)

Sakurajima volcano (Let me know if you like new version of Sakurajima, with fully photographic textures, vs the initial one that had photographic textures only at the crater, at the beginning of this thread. It's hard to decide, I think now looks cool but... :) btw you can distinguish far away Kirishima in the horizon)

These volcanos and volcano lakes are amazing!  So natural looking! I m trying to make volcanos now and am getting almost nowhere yet.  My volcanic craters have see through mountains if I use Map_c to add water to the crater, o_O

I got nowhere with that technique too :) the best way is to use a texture. And, trust me, nothing like using the same texture of the place you want to reproduce, if you want to make them geographically accurate :)
