Running 412 SAS 5.3  heavily modded. I tried :   64 x Ki-32 in same visual area;

...with 48 x skins 1024 + 64 x pilots skins + 4 to 5  bombs per plane, on Map Channel 4041 (large) ,  stuffed mission map, and head to head confrontation. No air combat from bombers however, was expected, but close proximity of all Ki-32 in same small arena achieved. Panels were 1024 x 1024.

...No FPS issue found.  :-X

Very nice drums on these guns.

Fixes from above work, it now appears normally and looks good!

But wow, I get a huge FPS hit in game when the Ki-32 is in view. Essentially unplayable.

Is that just a consequence of the 3d model? (I've actually got a new and pretty good graphics card installed...)

Animation is bad in my installation so I guess that it has to do with FPS, even if I haven't check.

A storm in a teacup. The Ki-32 had practically no active role either in the Sino-Japanese war or in the Second World War. A Sentai was formed in China in the late 1930s, but only when the hostilities had ceased, while its alleged participation in the conquest of Singapore did not occur because it arrived in Malaysia only in 1942. There is no historical evidence of its active presence. in the Manchukuo. Afflicted by incurable engine overheating problems, it was confined to use in training schools.

I read a different story that the overheating problems were responsible for the delay in production and that when they cured (with one year delay) it was ordered into productin. This for me makes more sense since the similar Ki-30 was already in production. Also, since the fighter-bomber concept was non-existant before 1941 among Japanese thinking, Japanese were forced to rely on light bombers in actual combat operations.

... Japanese were forced to rely on light bombers in actual combat operations.

History teaches us that the Japanese made a lot of strategic mistakes, in part similar to those of their allies. One of these was the conceptual refusal of the fighter-bomber; even when they accepted it, most of the time they sent their fighters to strafe their targets, with ridiculous results.
So-called light bombers were not even remotely comparable to their allied contemporaries (such as Ju 87 or Hs 129) or enemies (IL-2, A-20). The British described their attacks as "a waste of resources"; on the other hand, what can you do with some 25-50 kg bombs and a pair of rifle-calibre machine guns?

To their defence, in other countries also it happened almost by accident.

- in the UK they were essentially forced to adapt the concept after the complete failure of the Fairey Battle and the obsolence of the Hawker Hurricane, which production lines were making thousends of them and  they had to find a role or have a serious disruption of fighter production (More by luck than design, the Hurri's fat aerofoil gave a life extension to a dated design, with the Mk.IIc version). The "kittybomber" was yet another adaption of a fighter plane to a fighter bomber for much the same reasons, even if it was more competent as a fighter. Even the Typhoon was not designed with that role in mind, but came late enough to be adapted to this role and avoid cancelation.

- In the US they used the british experience and benefit from the fact they entered late in the war.

Mediafire seems to have a general issue at the moment.
It seems I can't even download my own files from within my own account right now.

Could be a conflict somewhere else as well. I've had similar issues with mods like the Steerman. Almost a slideshow in the first install i put it in... but i tried it in a later(lighter) build and it is fine! No idea what was causing the issue. A-10s did the same thing first time I installed them.... all good until i fired the GAU, then it was <1fps. Reinstalled recently and I've been flying the heck out of the Warthog with not a single issue.

FINALLY, the Ki-32!!! How I have been panting for this one! Could almost tempt me to return to modded IL-2 again  ;)

THANKS!!! And then thanks again!  ;D ;D ;D

And this aircraft WAS important historically speaking. I'm not at home right now, so I have to quote from wikipedia: "The Ki-32 saw extensive war service in the Second Sino-Japanese War, equipping the 3rd, 6th, 10th, 35th, 45th, 65th and 75th Sentai. It also saw combat during the Battle of Nomonhan against the Soviet Union in 1938-1939. Its last combat action was bombing Commonwealth forces during the Japanese Invasion of Hong Kong."
