DH88 "Comet"
« on: November 19, 2018, 07:11:21 AM »

Next in my BAT 3.5 skin collection is the Comet.
The G-ACSS Grosvenor House, winner of the 1934 England-Australia MacRobertson Air Race from the United Kingdom to Australia in 71 hours 18 seconds, is the default skin.

Here are her sisterships and some wardrobe change for your pleasure:

G-ACSP, Black Magic Jim Mollison and his wife Amy were both famous aviators in their own right and had earned the nickname "the flying sweethearts". After a repair in Karachi, they had to continue with unsuitable fuel provided by the local bus company, a piston seized and an oil line ruptured, ending their race in Allahabad with broken engines.

The third Comet, G-ACSR had been painted in British racing green by Bernard Rubin who was a successful motor race driver. They were the fourth aircraft to reach Melbourne, in a time of 108 h 13 min 45 s.

Black Magic was later sold to Portugal as Salazar and is currently awaiting restoration.

After returning to Britain, G-ACSS was evaluated by the Air Ministry and later sold again in 1937...

... to A. E. Clouston and participated in more racing action.

Two DH.88 were sold to France, doing some racing and postal duties.

enjoy:)

I've admired one of these at the Shuttleworth Collection. One of the most beautiful aircraft ever produced in my opinion. a pinnacle of the 1930's design aesthetic.
Your great skins of yours compliment it!
