How are you indexing them to 1mb?

How are you indexing them to 1mb?

In GIMP:

-Select IMAGE --> MODE--> INDEXED

-Save as ........tga

- OK

-then a screenie pops up and there you need to uncheck RLE compression.

Thats what I do but they all are 3mb. Maybe because they are 1024x1024?

Ok just in case you guys didnt see this on the last page while Uufflakke and I were talking here is a new texture for redko's palau map and a link to a thread I made on how to change map textures in DBW.....

Made a new shallows texture for Redko's Palau map....

I was having trouble getting the map to show correctly in DBW so I fixed it. Here is a link to that post...

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,6146.msg266778.html#msg266778

Here is the texture. Please, any feedback is welcome.:)

Thanks Boomer I thought I was coming down with noobs disease. :) I cant say I like the new way of the maps in DBW but I wont let it beat me. :)  I'm going to post a bumpH for it and a 1mb version for older pc's thank to Uufflakke's help today. I will start making them in 1mb form so others dont have fps problems.

Hi maestros, just wanted to add that I first saw the issue with seems between shallows in game with Avala's great newest Benghalli islands map. I wondered what the reason is, Avala already explained it to me, I can confirm it also happened in 4.09m.

Yes, it happens when the water 2 entry has a ,-2 at the end of the entry. It makes the texture bigger so the grid makes it that way but you end up with that seam. Thats why I am trying now to make shallows textures that dont need the ,-2 at the end of the entry. Some textures of mine are good for maps that only use a little shallows area like Setouchi. I can use my really cool ones with vegitaion and such but in maps that use a lot of shallows area I must make one that looks "busy" so you dont get the tiled effect. I know their just textures and not planes but they are a pain to get to look right on certain maps and a lot of work and frustration. :)

Thanks a lot for your detailed explanation, Bombsaway!
That gives me a clue to experiment with existing shallows so I can avoid having that look.
BTW your shallows rock, on all maps, desert to jungle!

PS: Avala's Benghalli shallow of course also looks gorgeous.
Cheers  :)

Yes Avala's are really great too. He got the program from me and Viking was the one who turned me on to it. Here it is...

If you like I can write a tutorial on how to make shallows textures of your own.

OH, That´s a surprise for me, I thought your great water textures would be included with the
new DBW package? But if they are not, I will have to tweak and learn how to install them. They are absolutely
a MUST add-on for this game.
The realism and visual effects are superb, some of the best I have seen. You map-artists are amazing at what you create
and paint. My applause to you!

It is a pain in DBW not to be able to access the load.ini's of maps, but if you think of it as the "standard" game with all the maps tucked away in SFS it makes more sense, remember the massive load times we had with huge Mod folders back in the 4.09 days  ;)
Now if you want to modify a map I find the easiest method is to use 78thFG_WindWpn's CLEAN DBW Modding JGME Packs as a base to start from

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,19921.0.html

You now have a switchable Mapmods folder with the complete DBW all.ini via JSGME

You can then mess with/add  maps to your hearts desire and any hiccups will not spoil your original DBW install. A good place to start is VPmedia's

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,20703.0.html (bonus of much improved building textures  :)))

This will give you 48 modded maps with the load.ini's accessible, just drop this into your new #DBW_MOD_Maps folder in jsgmemods Folder, and then activate in JSGME. It is simple to de-activate and make adjustments, and this will always take precedent over the files in your game or in your #DBW folder. I then add any new maps in this way, It is easy to have many versions  of the same maps just put a - in front of the Map folder.

For instance i have 3 versions of the Crimea map, in my Maps folder, it looks like this

Crimea        (active )
-Crimea1    (renamed with a - and added 1 for reference, not active)
-Crimea2    (same)

to switch I just edit the map name back to standard to get the one I want.
Soon you will have a Mapmod folder with loads of added maps that can be fiddled with in the old way, but easily de-activated in JSGME if you mess up, and you are back to functioning stock DBW

Cheers Dakpilot

Do you have a link to your thread? I have some textures that I wish I could use for large shallow areas but just come out too tiled. Thats why I make the ones for large areas look "busy".
