Why B-57 Canberra in BAT 3.5 carries BLU-11 napalm ?
« on: December 18, 2018, 02:41:19 AM »

I never read such texts.

BLU-11 napalm has very high drag shape and not fit planes flying over 300 km/h.
Yes, Not for B-57 or other jets.

Some photos (in wikipedia , other places) show B-57 carries low drag shape w/ tailfin napalms.
I don't know B-57's each pylon weight limit but, if 1000 lbs OK ---- maybe BLU-1, not OK ---- BLU-23.

These are some of the historical Napam loadouts that were installed on the B-57, taken from the offical USAF manual of the B-57.

As you can see Unfinned BLU-1, BLU-10, BLU23, BLU-27, BLU-32 could also be carried, besides finned versions of these bombs .

However use of unfinned napalm canisters demands an approach at medium-low speed and low altitude - therefore is impossible in case of expected intense AA  fire - this has led to the almost complete fall out of use of naplam since the early 1970s - no that it not a very efficient weapon, which use is fully legal against military targets accordiong to international law - but modern bombing profile is either high altitude guided bombs/medium speed or low altitude/fast speed.
In the Viet-nam environment, even for jungle clearing, such low speed/low level approaches were often quite risky.

At such low speeds, the B-57 could indeed deal with loads with a high drag index.
