From the end of August to the beginning of October a group of the VVS VMF pilots acted with their I-16 and Yak-1
as part of 69 IAP:

On august 9, 1941, some Ju-88 troop , escorted by Bf-109, deliver an attack to Odessa.
Three group of
9 IAP fighters (3, 2 & 9 planes) has been westwards for interception.
Soviets declared six wins (3 Ju-88 & 3 Bf-109), but three VVS pilots lost in action:
P.Kolobko, L.Danchenko, G.Lazarev.
PS: so, that was from Odessa airbase.

In early September, the regiment, which lost
51 aircraft, was assigned to re-form and retrain in Yeisk.
In mid-October 1941, the 2nd squadron with Yak-1 returned from Yeisk to the Crimea and only on October, 17 its pilots achieved 7 (seven) air victories over the western shores of the Crimea.
In the period from October, 21 to 29, 1941, the 2nd squad operated as part of the Freidorf air group. During this period, the squadron pilots shot down three Bf-109s, losing one Yak-1.
