Hi Mousquito and Tokyo Rose

I have a couple of issues for you to look at.
The second aircraft that lands at the Old Strip Buna goes on a cross country adventure, eventually crashing at New Strip.
Aircraft also crashing into the building or possibly the crater on the left side of the runway, can you please check the taxi points.
The map I was given in June no longer has takeoff/landing points on the smaller Gurney runway.

A while back I commenced some of my own tweaking on the earlier version (1942, does not extend as far north).

On map_T.tga I converted the pixels for the more fully covered forest textures to the value for the layered forest scheme. I find this gives a more varied look to the terrain.

The freed up texture slots permitted to create two new textures to represent the gravel/sand beds for those rivers which have them. The most notable is the Markham River, where a very wide bed is present over a great length from the mouth to well inland. Another lesser such case applies to another river not far to the north of Lae (name forgotten.) These rivers have sinuous, multi-branched channels, which I also treated as such.

I'm currently cleaning up some remaining artifacts from the pixel conversion process.

I was unable to save on this map BUT now I can!

Thanks to the earlier discussions on pages 23-24 and others.

I'm using vpmodpack but the discussions got me to look at Geezer's WWI objects.  I downloaded those objects and noticed that my vpmodpack was missing about half of them (live and dead).
However, installing the whole package still didn't fix my saving problem.

I then noticed WoodenWall1 object was a problem.
I read this discussion: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,60937.msg699119.html#msg699119

...The line for WoodenWall1 is missing the bracket " [ " at the start of the line and this caused the failure to save.

Hallo guys

First thank you for this great map! We are planning online event based on Sakais book Samurai! I am Slovak but we can read without problems in czech language and in czech translation name of the book is changed to Zeroes over Pacific - just let you know  :)

We started testing map over Lae. We fly HSFX, so map needed some aditions with WXTechs invisible objects and strangeloves log-static-null program to port missing objects lines to static.ini Now we can loda and save map in FMB. It looks very very nice.

I want ask about taxiway and ranway textures on Lae airfield. When I taxi to north runway look ok. But when I am near taxiway and runway end, textures deasapier. One second are there and another are not. When I change point of view in external view or in cockpit viev texures are back and than again desapier. Not sure if it is my graphics setings problem or it is texture problem on Lae map.

This business of runway textures disappearing is a result of the way graphical elements are drawn. When a texture on screen has the middle of that texture go beyond some point past the screen edge, the game engine treats it as being sufficiently far outside the field of view to ignore and hence not draw.

The problem with large elements (such as a full runway) that are close to the observer's viewpoint, a good part of said texture can still be on screen even when the center of the texture is far outside the screen area.

That's the danger of using very large, contiguous textures. The usual runways of old are made up of a great many smaller sections. And so for those there can essentially never occur an instance where such a small part has its center far enough outside the screen area so as to result in it's being not drawn while still having a portion within the field of view.

:(  Yes, the airport runways are the Achilles heel of this, moreover, magnificent map! I never pretended that Tokyo Rose devoted part of his life to modeling textures to achieve the sublime perfection that we all admired in Bee's masterpiece with his "Wellcome to Hell-Rabaul 1944, certainly the layout of the airport runways should be fixed in somehow .. I realize that it is a gigantic and extremely boring job ... but it would be a real shame to leave this beautiful map crippled!

Hi guys,

as usual thanks for your feedback.

We investigated those airfield desapearances issues, and must say WxTech did put us on the right track ]salut[
We've been working on that and can now gladly say that we are able to solve the problem   ]cheers[
Lots of work ahead, as there are plenty of airfield to take care of, but at least expect no more runway and/or taxiway desapearance in the next release !

Cheers

G'day Guys

While you are working on the maps airfields would you be able to correct the airfields at No. 1 Strip Gurney Airfield?
My map and photos show the strips around the other way.
That is the first one built which is the shorter/narrower one that has Marsten matting should be the southern strip.

Any info that differs from this can you please bring to my attention.

At 7-mile and Lakunai I did notice during landings and taxiing that airplanes disappear.  This is due to parking waypoints in a bad position - maybe too close to static objects.  I hope to see that those are fixed.
Anyhow, superb job with the look of the airfields!  They look amazing!  Below is Lae.

Hey guys

I want thanks you guys for this map again. We flew online event Dance over Port Moresby with 26 pilots. It was great experience! Only 1 (from 6) bomber survived mission and landed after almost 6 hours of flying back in Rabaul. Escort mission took cca 3hours. Looking forward to next map release!
