Btw your Burma Lower map (along with Cyberolas RRR jewel) kept us awake for hours and i like the excerpt you introduced your work with "...and as they descended into Burma for the first time they were struck by the colour of the Burmese foliage - the red and orange tints of the flowering trees which, in due course, we learnt to identify as the flame trees of the forest and the golden mohurs."
- a Beaufighter pilot
...remember ?  :P
I've actually enjoyed reading David J. Innes memoirs it's coming from.
ah, yes, of course I remember.  That was such a beautiful description so I just had to include it. Thanks for the appreciation!  ;D

Indeed. This work makes me salivate.  Cheers and wonderful screenshots.

Then comes to mind...agraciers great "Batavia" map...left unpopulated and abandoned.

Early Pacific.  Right down my alley.  Cheers Gentlemen, excellent work...

Hi Gubi
Standby for Western Java/ Southern Sumatra - just doing some preliminary textures - release soon!

Looks like Tokyo R's map will be a better option than the current DT NGNB maps  8)

Hello everybody,
Flying boats, seaplane bases and more specificaly a Black Cats tribute, lets raise our glasses to those bad ass crews  ]cheers[

So, there will be two main allied hydrobases on this map :

- Port Moresby

- Samarai island

PORT MORESBY HYDROBASE.

This hydrobase is located just by the town.

The town of Port Moresby and its small harbor.

ain't nothin but buzzing a quiet papuan native village ]headbang[

SAMARAI !

located at the far eastern tip of New Guinea, south east of Milne Bay.

Black Cats squadrons were stationed there and their PBYs would fly long night missions throughout the Solomon and Bismark seas, harassing whatever japanese ships and subs they would encounter or detect when eventualy radar fitted. During daytime, they would go again, but this time on rescue missions over enemy crowded waters.

The hydrobase at dusk, a couple of Black Cats PBYs are preparing to launch. Those missions were flown in the dark at low level, slightly above a hundred knots and often during more than 10 hours !

While some lucky off duty crew are enjoying a good "braai and boose" (for the afrikaners that might be amongst us :P) right on the beach.
They may think that this little island remote from the front line must not be the toughest place of the Pacific war zone to be posted at...

But tonight they're being observed by a rather univited guest...

Enough stories for this evening.
Within the upcoming days (weeks ?) when we're completely done with them, we'll present the two big airfield areas that are Port Moresby and Rabaul ; )

Cheers !

Max, thanks for your support  ]cheers[
and thank you too RealDarko !!
Not much has been achieved lately, Yann is concentrating on textures and i'm battling with Salamaua airfield, third of fourth time i've rethought it.

Rabaul airfields, for those that were there as of 1942 early -43, are getting closed to completion. A few screenshots from Vunakanau and Rapopo should come up in a day or two. Lakunai is still under progress, don't want to screw on this one if possible.

Meanwhile, for a refreshing change of scenery if i may say, we've worked on a few aircraft skins, Ki-43-I, RAAF P-40E and Hudson, Army Air Force Marauders.. Needless to say, all of them are "early New Guinean campaign", and when complete should be released together with the map.

Below a few screeshots showing the B-26 en route from northern Australia (allegedly, since our map doesn't go that south) to Port Moresby for a fuel stop, then off again for a low level bombing mission on Salamaua, seen in its latest (but not definitive) version.
Btw great B-26 templates reworked by Maty12 on the no less awesome Ranwers B-26 mod.
We know this is not the proper model of B-26 for early PTO operations, but we are not aware of any existing mod representing the early B-26s, with shorter wingspan and smaller vertical stabilizer/rudder, please correct us if we're wrong.

Thanks for following along !
Cheers

WOW! It is amazing :) By the way, is the scale of the map 1:1?

Hi guys,

thanks Karo and DHumphrey, and yes this is a 1:1 map ; )
been working on Lae, very important japanese airfield in 1942, home of both army and navy fighters.
Lae was complete... at least we thought ! It had to be entirely worked on again, since Yann has improved his textures or created others that are seen beneath.
Interesting to compare screenshots dating back from january this year, then march, to screenshots of the latest version of Lae that i completed yesterday. A few roads to extend further though, some color and static touch-ups and i'll be done with it.

So, Lae then and now...

January 2019  ]puke[
Notice my very unfortunate attempt to replicate craters filled with muddy waters, a rich idea..  ]thumbsup[  ...that was soon dropped !

/////Lae as of March /////

//////////Lae as of yesterday//////////
Gretting somewhere, or trying hard !

cheers

In my viewpoint as an artist, I would honestly say you got the detail of a muddy-watered filled crater quite well.
I would use that texture in a map.

Did you ever looked at aerial recon photos of WW1 trenches and their millions of craters?
Look at them close up.
Get real close to a high detailed photo and check out the little details.
You will see some craters fiolled with mud and water from the previous rainy days. It is not a pretty sight.

Better yet, go to your backyard (if you have one) and dig a small hole, as if it was created by a fallen bomb.
Check out its details. Then pour some water on it as if its raining. Wait a while and look at it again.
Take photos if you wish.

Great screenshots once again on this fine creation of a map!
Well done!

Cheers
