So, I installed 1946, patched it to 4.12. Installed HSFX 7.0 and did a manual update to 7.3. I activated the HSFX mod with the JSGME.

But every time I try to start IL2 1946, it gets to 5% on the splash screen and then quits.

What do I have to do to get this running?

For sure you did somethin wrong. Follow instuctions step by step and it will work ... believe me

One basic step is to start the game after each patch/installation and make sure it runs correctly.
Another is to read the read mes included with each installation ( takes a bit of time , but is worth
the investment).
Another is to make a safe copy of each successfully working installation as backup , just in case.

Lots of mistakes here...

• There is no such thing like HSFX 7.3.
• HSFX 7.0.3 installs on top of IL-2 1946 4.12.2m.

You're all probably correct. It probably is something I'm doing wrong.

Start with 4.12.2, then HSFX 7, then HSFX 7.0.3.
That should do the trick.

5% crash is a mismatching files.sfs.
That's what you get when the base game version doesn't match the modpack you're trying to install.

Again: HSFX 7.03 needs IL-2 1946 4.12.2m
Files.sfs size for 4.12.2m is 33.505.214 bytes.
If that's not the size of your files.sfs, then your game isn't 4.12.2m.

Hmmm, that may be the issue. My files.sfs is 32.720KB.

Ahemmm... 33.505.214 bytes and 32.720kB is just the same.

Which means you've beefed up something else.
