I never used the word conspiracy
Right, your terms were...
I'm pretty sure that this is Microsoft pushing ppl towards Win10.
...which comes to the same effect.
For your information, even Windows XP still received a security patch in May 2019.

Shutting down a games server on a discontinued product is hardly anything but ending the ride of a dead horse.

My apologies, I was using the term “conspiracy” somewhat tongue-in-cheek (given the sometimes tinfoil hat cynicism towards Microsoft by some commentators at tech sites), I didn’t mean to intentionally misrepresent vp.

And thanks for the info, I didn’t realise the issue was due to the deactivation of the server, i just assumed it was something to do with the most recent patches, and given it was late at night after a full work day, I couldn’t be bothered following it up further once I had resolved the issue.

Both my notebooks run Win10, so I guess I should get around to updating my games PC  to standardise things.

Cheers
