Tricky triggers - unusual objectives
« on: August 10, 2019, 12:53:29 PM »

I am attempting to set up a mission for a bit of a complex storyline.

The objective is that you "catch a man".

Meaning: you need to prevent his getaway and force him to land/jump and then land right there. The mission uses the autogyro so the landing anywhere part is easy.

I set it up so you have two primary targets:
"Escort" your enemy, timed for a few minutes - you are not allowed to destroy him
"Recon/Land" in a very big area, timed a little longer.
I set him up to attack player, so he won't just wander off very far but stays in the huge recon circle

You must shoot and damage him just so he makes a belly landing and then touch down close to him. If you are quick you even touch down before the pilot is jumping the pit and running away.

If the man isn't crashing himself into a structure in his feeble attempt to outturn me, I get it done quite well. 2 out of 3 times Mission Complete.

What wicked objectives have you set up before?

I know this is from more than a year ago, but just saw it so forgive me for necroing a thread

This seems like a really clever way to get your objectives to work

Regarding missions with strange objectives - in one of my first campaigns you had to take off in the Mistel, detach the 190 and get the Mistel to “land” without going off

I also did a mission similar to yours, though not as well thought out, where you had to bring down a Ju-52 but not destroy it (I think you know about that one!)

Also had one where you had to bail out over a ship and land on it (you know about that one too!)

you are very welcome, and yes, I remember both missions :)

Thinking about it now, these could possibly be refined by setting the Ju to "escort", so you get a fail when it's destroyed? But there will be a lot of randomness to it in the mountains.
It would take some experimenting.

I can't think of some way to set up the ship thing better though. It's just a "make belief" thing.

A mission I made for my very old SCW Campaign was quite special : the player had to take off a captured plane back to his base. But he wass attacked by the red blue sided plane (his side) AND by the blue  sided ones too. So, player had to avoid any plane in the vicinity, whther they are red or blue.

The trick was to edit the mis file manually, modifying the player's "squadron", and make it neutral instead of red or blue.
