F4U kind of slow?
« on: October 26, 2019, 05:32:02 PM »

Took up an F4U-1 to put it through the paces, I was surprised how gutless the aircraft was.  Top speed at sea level was 280mph TAS (real life 328) and at 20K feet it was 301mph TAS (RL 425).  Tried various prop pitches from 100 to 80 but no affect.  Also tried on easy flight and still it was a tug boat, is my install gimped or is this the way it is?  (Speeds from Warplanes, Vol4, McDonald).

**I thought maybe it was because I wasn't using the super charger so flew again, couldn't get above 250mph TAS (no wind).**

Strange.

BAT 3.7.2, F4U-1 "Birdcage", Flight Test Map, QMB start @100m ASL, full throttle, level stabs engaged, letting the bird run until speed stabilizes:

346mph IAS @600ft.

I made a thread about this.  I tried P-38L 1944, F4U-1D, Spitfire MkIXE.  Altitudes from 20k to 30 with level stab on.  None of the A/c could not get to top published speed.  No enemy a/c or flack.

Time to remove all these mods I guess.

Are you just ignoring my reply by chance or is this intentional?
You must be doing something wrong guys.
It took me less than a minute to replicate correct top speeds or even exceed them, see screenshots.

Even more, you gave in that it's been something on your end already: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,62543.msg688232.html#msg688232
Why is it that you try to make it look like a mod issue again?
It's not.

Nope, not my intention to ignore you at all.  Just trying to figure out why/what is all.

Most of the time something goes weird with my game I automatically assume it is me/user error.

Have a good one.

Hi Mike;  Darn, I wish I could figure out why it won't fly at the proper speed on my end.  Can I ask what mods you are using (just the BAT ones?).  I thought maybe it was the NG Hud mod but there was no difference enabled or not.  If I remember correctly my tempest was a lame duck too, almost stalling just by turning.  My BAT install with La Cirque is 85gb, is that correct?

I will try the F4U-1D again.  I did do my test with STAB4ALL enabled and just let it go until it stopped accelerating.

Cheers;
Chris

###Well smack me silly, so ran the birdcage and the F4U-1D again, using Coral sea map and Channel map and they each got to 525km/hr at 200-500m with 100% prop###

My BAT is clean and dry to the bone.
Now that you got the right speed on another attempt, maybe it's just been a trim issue on the previous one?

Not sure, it flew again alright last night in a campaign, but I got totally lost.  Trim is a bugger, you get it level, do one thing different (throttle etc) and trim is gone.  Realistic but frustrating but I like it.

Do you not use any of the mods, not even the BAT ones that come with the install?

Thanks once again.

Taking part of the BAT development myself from time to time, it's a must for me to have my BAT clean, plain vanilla as it comes.
