JTW Pilot helmet personalization
« on: November 22, 2019, 04:29:20 PM »

Hi everyone today i have a question about helmets of pilots.
I distinctly remember in BAT v3.6 that on some planes like the A-6, F-14 and F-104 it was possible by editing a pilot skin to change a helmet color, but in the latest patches it seems that it's not possible anymore. I know that there are some mods capable of changing the helmet and glasses but i sincerely do not know how to install them, at least in BAT.
The majority of planes now has default, unchangeable pilot helmets like the F-4 and i'd like to create my own schemes.

Could someone please help me out to figure where to look for the default F-4 helmet skins and exactly explain how to change them? (Pilot + WSO)
I'm primarily looking for HelmetF4_1.tga and HelmetF4_2.tga but they aren't in-game in the area where they should be located in...IL-2 BAT/#JTW3/!SAS_Engine_Mod/3do/plane
If i download the standalone F-4 i have these 2 files but i can't find them in BAT neither in the 3do/plane/Textures or anywhere else.

Is it still possible to change the helmet skin? Or are they strictly tied with the plane mod itself? These files still exist?

Thank you for your attention :)

Hi enry,

I don't have experience with changing the helmets, but here's what I found after taking a quick look. Not sure if this is correct or the best way.

Those files can be accessed through the individual aircraft mods, I don't know how to de-package something inserted into BAT. You'd have to download the aircraft mod itself, find the files, edit them, then insert into your #JTW folder as an additional mod.

For example I found the helmet folders for the A-6(after downloading the individual mod itself) in the A-6 Intruder\3do\cockpit\A6E folder. I would edit those files and try adding such a folder to your #JTW folder.

This is just a guess and how I'd go about testing it out. You'd have to change files every time you wanted a different helmet. The mods that don't have built-in pilots seem to still accept changeable pilot skins as far as I can tell. Perhaps someone else can correct me!
