Consider that no map in Il-2 will be true 1:1 scale due distortion, because il-2 uses a flat earth terrain model.
Small differences over long distances will always occur.

That's true, and it's a matter of taste whether one enjoys the realistic flight times, but the real beauty of a 1:1 scale map is the realistic look of the terrain. With reduced scale the contours become too squeezed and the slopes of the hills and mountains become far too steep; this, for me, removes immersion.

With the War over Italy map it just looks a bit silly for me - Sicily and Malta especially. You operate from Malta early in the war and it just looks tiny, almost like one of those small Pacific islands.

Fact is the majority of maps in IL2 are 1:1 (apart from spherical distortion). For the few maps which are not 1:1, then if that offends you dont use them. There is an excellent 1:1 map of Malta available, so whats the problem.

With hundreds of maps available in current BAT edition... I find it's hard to complain.

Kudos to all mapmakers who spent their precious time to contribute to this large and growing catalog.
