Unfortunately I could not make COD work except for the enormous cinematic feature (that is you feel like you are playing it inside a huge cinema screen)… but alas I could not get the full 3D VR experience.  But I only tried one of the cloud profiles.  There are a few.  I am currently working on a fix for my son's laptop and when that is done I'll go back to tweaking IL-2.  If I get some time I'll give COD a go as well.

Have you tried IL-2 Great Battles with VR?  It is truly mind boggling… I tried one of the tank missions and almost jumped back when I turned around and saw one of the tank crewmembers by me...  I need to figure out some of the settings because although I fit well in a P-47, I felt my head was touching the canopy in the P-38.

Yes IL2 Great Battles is superb in VR. It is now practically the only sim I play, simply because the VR experience is so amazing.
Battle of Bodenplatte and Flying Circus have to be experienced to be believed and Tank Crew, as you say, is frighteningly real. It would be nice, though, if the Devs could animate the crew a little more - at the moment it's a bit like sitting next to waxworks dummies.
DCS is also very good in VR but at the moment it cannot compare with Great Battles, simply on performance.

For your head position problem, just try playing around with the VR re-centre control. From where you are sitting try raising your head up a little and press the re-centre button at the same time. This should place your virtual head slightly lower in the cockpit and vice-versa if you want your head position higher.

Thanks for the tip; like I said, I am a n00b in VR, so any help is great.

Something I found that may help in vorpX:
1) customization of keys for invoking vorpX interface during play
2) ability to customize VR controller butons/mini-sticks
3) VR overlay buttons (when you press shift-mouse-wheel-button, a 4x4 interface appears in which you activate keys with your eyes

Sometime ago I have told about vorpX and Il2 1946 in VR, but somebody told that, as 1946 was not designed for VR environment, some glitches may occur during the experience,
like clouds, terrain and objects looking closer than they really are.
Does this problem really exist and persists to this day?
I don't have a VR set yet, but would like to get one any day. However, I wanted to make sure of the capabilities of this equipment before investing so much money in it (as I live in Brazil, anything priced in US dollars is costing at least one kidney around here these days).

Last night tried my first attempts at getting il2 1946 to work in VR but sadly I was unsuccessful - VorpX seemed to be working ok - I got the "injecting into il2.exe" message, but then a warning message saying it was taking a long time and "did I want to abort?". I let it run for a very long time, and made several attempts, but it did not work. Game just displayed normally on the monitor.
I noticed that the Il2 1946 profile is described as "for Oculus" so maybe it doesn't work for Pimax. The next step is to dig out my old Oculus Rift CV, and give that a go.

Also tried the COD profiles but couldn't get past the Steam VR interface because my mouse cursor did not display, so I couldn't click on the proceed button.
Frustrating but I will keep trying  :(

Alex, espero que tudo esteja bem por ai.  Trocando pelo ingles para a maioria entender.

Anyway, yes it is true, there are some issues.  The adaptation I have tried works pretty well, but depending on map and view sometimes the clouds and some fires look closer.  But then again, I am just messing with the settings a little at a time after work and family time just to get to a working setting.

Right now I am messing with Joy/HOTAS/keyboard and vorpX settings.  I have not tried any of the advanced vorpX features so I cannot tell you if I will be able to fix that.

I am new to VR myself and am trying to get used to it.  For me Oculus Rift S works well, but yes, it is expensive (about US$400, which exchanging in Reais it must be more expensive).  Seems to be compatible with a good deal of games plus it works with Steam VR as well.  I had to do a LOT of convincing to my wife to give it to myself for Christmas...

Something else to consider is using it for the new IL-2 Great battles series (https://il2sturmovik.com/) which is coming along nicely, but it is somewhat expensive to get all modules... but it inherently supports VR.

Not sure if this helps, but there it is.

Boas Festas, Feliz Natal e Feliz Ano Novo.

Squashman,

Sorry about your troubles.  I am trying to get the settings to a reliable working model and am working on a Guide on a Word doc, but unfortunately it is limited to:

* Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Joystick
* Oculus Rift S
* vorpX
* Joy2Key
* Oculus software

I am sure there are ways to adapt to other hardware but I can only work with what I got.

But in the end of the day, it is very important to have expectations in check as well... this is an experiment that takes a 20 year old flight Sim and tries to add VR capabilities, so it is not going to be perfect.  What I have gotten to work is satisfying for me, but it is not a native VR program unfortunately.

The ability to sit in a very immersive He-177 Greif (one of my favorite planes) cockpit, moving around and feeling like touching the interior... even just sitting in bombardier position and looking out the window or experiencing the animation to get into the bomb sight is thoroughly satisfying to me.  Some of the turrets are a little odd but you can always quickly switch to cinematic mode to fix the ones you can's see so well.  There are also some flashes during firing but I guess I am easy to amuse...

Hang in there and I hope you get it to work.  Yeah... COD was a fail for me.  Make sure you are checking the "use alternative hook method" in vorpX with the latest release.

For my setting, I launch the Oculus Software, make sure the set is working, then I launch VorpX, then I launch BAT.

Without knowing much about the Pimax I am not sure if there is something particular about that set.  Did you check the vorpX Forum regarding the Pimax settings?  Did you try posting there?

Thanks UberDemon

I will keep persevering with both IL2 '46 and COD.

Only in IL2 1946 can you fly aircraft such as the He-177 and in so many different theatres of war; which is why it would be so great to have the VR experience, even if not perfect.

I will try the forums and continue experimenting. Thanks again

Hello UeberDemon,
I am using VorpX now for a long time with IL2 1946.
It works well but Head Tracking centering works only together with Opentrack.
I would like try out only with VorpX without Opentrack.
The  Center Positional Tracking of VorpX does not work good on my configuration.
Do you know a way to reset / center head tracking only with VorpX?
Best regards

I'm having issues with a disorienting feeling, blurring while moving the head, lag when moving the head, and general crosseyed effect with my Rift S. Not sure what is going on. I'm running it on BAT with a 6 core i7 and RTX 2070 (laptop). VR in GB works great. I'm running the Ekrull settings and have tried tweaking some of the settings which have helped a bit. I am using open track with oculus input and track ir output (no filter). I have set mouse=1 in the conf.ini as well as a custom resolution (which causes the game to crash on startup). With 1920x1080 set it works, but the image is very grainy and distorted. I'm about ready to give up.

Crosseyed effect has sometimes to do with the stereoscopic crosshairs of gun sight. Maybe you try BF109 or FW190. And I always dim the crosshair at a beginning of a mission. And if you vary the distance of your head forward / backward to the sight it could be better.
Don`t give up to early. Between march and Dezember it work great on my computer, I think I flew about 150 campaign missions or so. But since the last update I have some problems with the tracking and recentering. But I will try it out from time to time. If I have good results I will report.
15 minutes later:
head tracking issue is solved. I had forgotten to run opentrack as Admin after a reinstall. With Opentrack it works well again.

Hi,
 First backup your conf.ini and copy it to a safe place.

open conf.ini and replace the Render OpenGL settings:

[Render_OpenGL]
TexQual=3
TexMipFilter=3
TexCompress=0
TexFlags.UseDither=0
TexFlags.UseAlpha=0
TexFlags.UseIndex=0
TexFlags.PolygonStipple=1
TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0
TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=0
TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1
TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0
TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1
TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1
TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1
TexFlags.ClipHintExt=1
TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=1
TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=1
TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=0

TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1

HardwareShaders=1

Shadows=2
Specular=2
SpecularLight=2
DiffuseLight=2
DynamicalLights=1
MeshDetail=2
VisibilityDistance=3

Sky=2
Forest=3
LandShading=3
LandDetails=2

LandGeom=3
TexLarge=1
TexLandQual=3
TexLandLarge=1

VideoSetupId=17
Water=4
Effects=1
ForceShaders1x=0
PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.0625
PolygonOffsetUnits=-1.0

In the unmodded il2 versions I had similar issues like you but now I copyed the settings from my BAT conf.ini and now the graphic quality is much more better.

Best regards
