DCG with BAT maps?
« on: March 10, 2020, 01:59:57 AM »

Okay, this has been posted before, but it was in 2017, so I figure it's fine to make a new thread than to commit an act of necromancy on that scale!

In the previous thread it was mentioned that adding BAT maps to DCG is 'relatively simple', are there any guides or basic instruction kicking about for how to do this? BAT has some CRIMINALLY amazing maps and I'd love to use them! I've got DCG running the new BAT aircraft like a charm but this is all new to me. :) I apologize if I ask so many questions, there is quite a bit to learn.

Thanks so much! :)

If you are making a new DCG campaign you can use any map you wish.

However, changing map in an existing campaign is next to impossible. That's because road network, rail network and shiproutes (they also define locations) as well as all stationary objects are created using a certain map. If you change the map the coordinates do not match. It would be like trying to travel blindfolded in Great Britain using a map of Australia.

When you say 'in a new campaign' do you mean as in starting a new game? Because I'm quite happy to start a new game if you can fill me in on how to change the maps around. :) :) :)

No. I mean creating a new campaing from scratch.

For example, my Operation Torch campaign https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,63280.0.html uses Canarias_Marruecos map. There is practically no way you can use any other map in that campaign. In order to do so you would have to re-write almost all files included in the pack.

Interesting! Firstly, I'm going to download that, it looks like fun.

Secondly, are there tutorials about for this? I'm willing to learn if there is reading material about.

Thank you  :)

If you would like to get started creating/editing DCG campaigns, see Tailspin's old but great tutorial:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,50725.msg553622.html#msg553622

Creating DCG campaings is not very hard, but unfortunately learning curve is steep.

Good place to start is to look and download DCG campaigns from "BAT Missions and Campaigns" (Vonofterdingen has created very good campaigns). Open files with notepad or similar (all files are plain text files) and study them as you read the tutorial.
