F-14 vs Zero Final Countdown
« on: March 16, 2020, 08:55:08 PM »

I saw in JTW that the IJN Carriers work on Bat Coral  Sea CVE, but is it possible to add the Aircraft i.e. Zero?

Multiple IJN Carriers & ships to swamp the Nimitz defenses.

Aim-9's only for the Tomcats.

Iron bombs only for the A-6's or A-4's.

No Radars.  The fuse burnt out.

Could be a lot of fun especially going after shore installations.

It is possible. ;) You just have to add the entries of a WW2 plane you want from #WAW into #JTW. I tried that some weeks ago with that named scenario but I  used only the Air.ini entries to try it and it worked. My guess is that if you want special loadouts you have to make the other entries as well. As usual: Make a backup of the STD folder before trying anything. But you knew that of course. :)  Note: It does NOT work the other way round, i.e. you cannot use modern Jets in #WAW.

Thanks HJM.  I think restrictive loadouts on the USN side would be mandatory.

I had no idea about the STD folder, no.  I used to break my game regularly  adding basic mods, so, this is why I asked first.

I may make a nice clean copy and try it.

I put the IJN a/c in the eastern block fighters section.

As expected for me, CTD at 60%. I guess it is Buttons?

I'm using BAT 3.8.2.

hmmm.

Really!? Gonna try again and report back. It used to work - I'm 100% sure on that. o_O

Edit: Works!  -  You copy only the Air.ini entry of the "Zero" of your choice from #WAW into the Air.ini of #JTW in section "Prop Singles" I simply pasted it on the first line. No additional entries needed from what I thought before.  Runs smoothly. Try again - it should be OK. ;)

Well like I said I usually cause issues if I add anything to my game.

Could be that I copied all the IJN Navy aircraft from WAW air.ini and pasted into the JTW ini.  Maybe one of them does not want to work for some reason.    I will try again and use the // on each aircraft.

This could inspire someone to do a campaign maybe?

o_O  It is very important and logical to backup your working STD folder before you change anything. If you edited .inis  and cannot remember what you changed you crash your game - it's that simple. I hope I could make myself clear and cannot support you beyond that - my guide on how to add the planes is precise - and also it is imo not too difficult to do that. But if you don't know much about editing etc. in the first place, you better  read all tutorials available on this extraordinary site. Just sayin'... ]violent1[

I got it working in QMB, copied zero air.ini line into prop single.  At first it threw an error at me, but then I changed the map from coral sea to midway and it worked.  At first I tried red as zero and never found the F14, then tried F14 as red and never found the zero. I then added 8 zeros to red along with the F14 and all the friendly zeros and the enemy zero attacked me and shot me down (ai was flying the plane).  So it worked for me but it seems the map is important.  QUESTION:  are the squares normal in the game, if you look at the ocean you see terrain with square pattern.  You can see in pic 2 the zero wing mates.Using 3.8.2

Thank you HJM for all of your help.

Weasel, I have to admit that I did not consider that the map would make a difference.  Those weird squares, hmm. No idea what to suggest, but thanks for the info re the map.

Got it figured out, shader was at 0 instead of 1.  Water much more choppy now.
