CA-111's in Foreign Lands
« on: March 23, 2020, 11:22:43 PM »

Finally, thanks to Knochenlutscher I can fly the Caproni CA-111 and offer a few non-Italian skins as well. The excellent AOI campaign skins covers the water front for Regia Aeronautica aircraft. So here's a few Peruvian and Chinese skins to add.  All are 1024, made from the default.  The Peruvians acquired 12 Ca111 originally as float planes but soon converted them to land bombers. They were referred to as "Panchos" named for the elephant in residence in the Lima Zoo at that time.  While in the bomber role the Panchos sported a flying elephant carrying a bomb insignia on the fuselage. By 1941 the aircraft had been relegated to the transport role and participated in a Peru-Ecuador border conflict that same year, conducting the first airborne combat drop in the Western Hemisphere.  The Chinese from my limited research operated six aircraft as bombers with the 9th Bomb Squadron in the mid-30s.  Don't know if they were operational at the time of the Sino-Japanese War. Enjoy.

Hi Dona. According to 'A history of Chinese Aviation' by Lenart Andersson

6 Ca111RCs were delivered to the 9th Squadron CAF in 1935. Another was fitted out as a transport and given by Mussolini to Chiang Kai-shek. It is not clear if 9th Squadron still had them in 1936 but the unit is listed as Ca101 equipped in that year. That could be a typing error. Anyway,by October 1936 9th Squadron had Northrop 2Es. There appears to be no mention of Ca111s in either bomber or transport role by then.
