Early B-17s
« on: April 10, 2020, 11:24:07 PM »

So here's a pack of early B-17 historic skins of B,C, D models.  All skins go in the B-17D folder.  They represent aircraft from the 14th, 32nd, 61st, Bomb Squadrons and the 11th Bomb Group, mostly operating in the Pacific in the days leading up to Pearle Harbor.  Also represented are 2 aircraft assigned to the Cold Weather Test Detachment, Ladd Field, Fairbanks, Alaska in 1940. Black 1 (38-215) informally known as "Old Seventy" was still flying into the early months of WW II in it's bare metal/red scheme.  As such, it engaged in early war combat missions (maritime patrol) while assigned to US Navy Patrol Wing 4 flying out of Umnak island, Alaska tracking Japanese fleet movements in the Aleutians.  At some point it got an OD/grey paint job and was redesigned as a YB-17B flying weather recon until lost in bad weather late summer of 1942 (OD skin is included).  It is believed that "Old Seventy" was the only B-17B to have undertaken combat missions in WW2.  Also included is B-17D black 45 assigned to the 14th BS Clark Field in the Philippines. On Dec 10, 1941 it was one two B-17s that attacked Japanese shipping off Aparri. It was jumped by Zeros while returning to Clark and crashed.  Both HD and 1024 skins are included as is an aluminum generic. Skins were made from a truly excellent template by JARink.  Enjoy.
