In hypotetic '46 scenario, with the increasing Allied air activity, RLM went to desperate measures to cut bomber losses, and initialize development of defensive variant of X-4 AAM.
Here is the result...

Rearward-starting X-4 missiles, controlled by AI gunners. And AI will not hesitate to use it.

Mod features different bomb loadouts, combined with X-4 AAMs in defensive orientation.

If Zorin's weapon mod, including SB 1000 & PC 1000RS, is installed, this mod will benefits from it. Credits to Zorin for these awesome weapons.

Also, mod fixes rear-left turret. With new weapon configurations, turret loaded and armed. Gunner position cockpit added.

UPDATE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AI now can commit dive bombings (depending on ingress altitude).
PC 1000RS added to weapon loadouts (bomb slot, so AI can deploy it in dive, else it just waste it or drag it back home).

UPDATE ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Torpedo loadouts added (including acoustic homing torpedoes).
RATO units added for heavy bomb & torpedo loadouts (air brakes can be operated only after boosters cut-off).

AI X-4 handling improved. Paraflares included in night operations loadouts. Loadouts list extended further.
Both pilot and co-pilot (as bombardier or fore gunner) can fire fore MG 81.
Currient loadouts list extension:

- unbewaffenet -                      [ALL weapons removed, including defensive]

Imagine a formation of Ju-88 flying ahead the B-17 gigantic bomber stream. Just as the American pilots begin to wonder if the German wants to guide them to target, the Junkers fire their rearward X-4, devastating the whole enemy formation without any risk. Well, I'd try this tactic tonight :D
Great work of you, thank you very much.
BTW, can you possibly make the (unguided) rearward firing rocket for IL-2? It simulates the historically used anti-fighter grenades, which were fire rearwards and explode about 300m behind the aircarft. Many German and Soviet documents write about them. I think no external 3D model is needed, just adding some RS-82 fired by the rear gunner.

Look in the mods section for a Pe-2/3 pack. One of the Pe-3 series planes in that mod has an option of several RS-82 rockets, but two of them are fired from behind. I've never tried to destroy bombers with it, though.

I didn't know the turrets could fire X-4's. Interesting...

Really interesting idea, RGA, I will keep it in mind.
But I think, the AI will just waste the ammo with such weapon. Pilot AI can't handle a rearward-faced weapon, gunner AI can't handle fixed weapon.

Neat idea. There was probably room for rearward firing large command guided defensive missiles in the earl 1950s.

I have a request though: I was wondering if you could make a version where those missiles are turned around?

The Ju-88 was actually used as a carrier for the X-4. This was used in weapon tests but experience showed it was difficult for a pilot to both fly a fighter and guide the missile - so there were preparations to use Ju-88 with offensive X-4s where the gunner would operate the missiles. This would make an excellent and very realistic mod.

These are the only pictures I've found. They show the prototype with one X-4. I think two would be a more likely combat load (nice to have as an option). More missiles may have been possible as well.

What do you think?

P.S. I've seen fixed rearward firing guns work on the Pe-3.

Ju-88 was used only as testbed for X-4 missiles in the process of development. It has no hardpoints for forward-launching misseles - propeller obscures the launch trajectory. Lower turret also interferes. I think, Ju-88 isn't good choice for such armament.
I have some ideas about He-111H6 and Ar-234 B2.

P.S. I'm also seen rear fixed gun firing on He-111H6. Rear fixed gun counts as turret, and there is some developers trick to make it "panic" and fire aimlessly, wasting ammo. Without that trick, it would'n shoot at all, since AI can't track target with fixed gun.

I have this mod installed on the me-262 works fine.
But it wont show up on the ju88 any ideas?
May be some conflicting mod, if U have other Ju-88 mod installed. Try rename mod folder as 00_Ju-88_A4 to made it load first and check again. Check mod install. It should add not only Ju-88_A4 folder,  but also RocketX4homing folder, containing at least 92FE8B1CC2F1537C and DBC5588CF3CAFD18 files.

Thanks for the feedback. The photos seem to show the missile dropping from the rear fuselage. I'm not sure how this worked. A combat feasible layout might have been to mount a missile outboard of the prop on each wing (similar to the gunpod configuration used on the A-13).

Sorry, kameraden  :-[  I made U worry in vain.
Due to bad source files organisation, I omit in the mod install one folder (named RocketX4+backfire) with classfile, linked to mod, but not having explicit relationship to it. So I did not notice it.
Now it should work. Link updated.
