I seldom make "what-if" campaigns, but faced with the Fokker D.XXIII I couldn't resist myself:

This is a "What-if" 7-mission static campaign portraying the aerial fighting during the Battle for Holland in May 1940. You are a fighter pilot in the Dutch airforce (Luchtvaartafdeling). The Dutch airforce is - like its Belgian counterpart - a small airforce that is only semi-modern. But the modern part of the fleet had been procured and delivered in the last four years.
You are flying the most modern aircraft in the arsenal of the Luchtvaartafdeling, the Fokker D.XXIII fighter. The D.XXIII was a novel single-seater twin-engined, twin-boom design, very fast (some 520 km/h) and with pretty heavy armament (two 7.9mm machine guns and two 13.2mm machine-guns). It flew for the first time in May 1939, but it was from start plagued by problems, mainly with the cooling of the rear engine and general engine performance.
The aircraft was flown 11 times for a total flight time of less than four hours. On the 11th flight, in April 1940, the undercarriage was damaged, which meant further delays. And when Germany invaded Holland the month after this promising but troubled programme was finally abandoned. It was never used in combat.
But what if the Fokker programme hadn't been so haunted by problems and bad luck? and the Dutch had managed to build a number of D.XXIII's in time for the German Attack in May 1940? Fly this campaign and find out!
