Hi

I followed the procedure described in Actors Tutorial:

- Put a valid actors.static in ...\Z_ActorsManagement\MW_Statics\Base_Files
- Put a MapSize.txt with the following lines:
                                                             # Size of map y direction in meters
                                                             48000.0
  Since my map is 480km (map_c 12096 x 9600.  9600x50 = 480000 , so I wrote 48000.0 according to the tutorial)
- Extracted with no problem
- Copied all the out*.txt and paste into the Base_Files
- Renamed all out files to in*.txt
- Browsed to the proper folder and ran the .Jar

Here is the result:

0%

The new actors.static is smaller than te original (91o instead of 99) and of course it doesn't work
Beside, when I try to reextract it failed since the buildings has disappeared

Please Help !
I tried hundreds things, read all the related threads on the forum.
No clue what I'm doing wrong ?

I've run into this issue years ago, but dont remember the exact solution. What's the format of the inBuildings.txt file you're saving? Does it have a byte order mark? If yes, try without it (UTF-8, no BOM). When I edited maps I modified only the inBuildings.txt for actros.static changes, I never adjusted the map size txt or any other files.

Thanks for your reply
Format is UTF-8

By the past, a few years ago I had no trouble at all.
Isn't it an issue with that f...  ):D ]banghead[ ]violent1[ W10 ?

in this case you got two options

UTF-8
UTF-8, NO BOM

UTF-8 seem to be not working

I use SublimeText and UltraEdit, both can save a file without that byte order mark

Only my actors.static is not valid.
I extracted from an actors.static coming from an existing map and rebuilt from the extracted files : no problem.

The problem is :
It's a new map I'm building. It's empty for the moment. No bridges, no plates, no buildings, no stationnary.
I just wanted to test with a few object.
So inChiefs, inChiefRoad, inNstationary and inWing are empty

Is there anything mandatory for the actors_management to work ?
a bridge ? a plane ? a truck ?
a can of beer, may be ?
I can give a few pairs of jeans too ... ]dontknow[

I eventually found where the problems where.

1/
inNStationary must not be empty. One line is necessary as a minimum.
The reason of that stays a mystery for me.

2/
A certain amount of objects is required. That means that inBuildings must have at least 4500 lines !!!!!
I've tested:
 100 lines : Actors_management stops at 80%
 200 lines : 90%
 300 lines : 93%
 1000 lines : 98%
 2000 lines : 99%
 5000 lines : BINGO ! 100%
Did the same way back:
 4500 lines : Ok 100%
 4000 lines : 99%

I said stop !
What a pita !
I just put 4500 houses in a corner of the map, in order to be able to do my further tests.
I will delete them later when the time comes.

A question remains : Does Any programmer plan to make a tool for actors.static files handling ?

Hi Chrival

The author of AutoPop wrote this in the readme file:
act.jar seems to need at least a 'BRIDGE', a 'Airdrome Points/RUNAWAY' and a 'Runaway/Ground' objects placed to work and make a correct actors.static. That's why I added the act.jar_in_files folder with the in_ files I use to make the actors.static. It will create the related objects along with all the buildings that came in the inBuildings.txt you create with autopop.

Nowekat has made a new static.actors.tool, check here:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,61796.0.html

Good luck!

Best regards
