The functionality of this mod has been superseded by the Next-Generation Sound Engine.

This mod changes BAT's weapon and motor presets (the soundmatrix) to allow for more variety in both engine sounds and gun sounds.

With this installed on your BAT:
- You will have over five times the gun presets to differ the sounds between every gun type.
- You can assign startup sounds to each individual motor type in ways you couldn't before. (e.g. db603 startup can differ from db600, db601)
- All std_X.start.begin and std_X.start.end are deprecated.
- The old motor.Wright_Cyclone1820_tb.prs (B-17 and B-24) works again.
- motor.DB-700_Series.prs is used by the Lerche.
- Tons of Japanese engines which aren't Sakae engines use the Nakajima engine sound instead of the Sakae engine sound

I call this an unlocker because this expands the variety of sounds you can use. Before, many motors used common startup sounds like std_e and std_p, meaning you would have the same startup sounds for motors that should sound completely different (i.e., MiG-3 and FW 190 D-9 used the same startup sound). You also could not differentiate between types of ~20mm cannon or ~13mm MG (Ho-103, MG131, UB all with the same sound, and same for ShVAK, B-20, MG 151/20, MG/FF, VYa-23 etc). With BSMU, though, all guns have the capacity to have their own sounds and all engines have the capacity to have their own individual startup sounds.

Notes and Limitations of BSMU
- BSMU only changes the engine sound presets of planes which use the standard buttons file. Planes which use DiffFM to have their own custom flight models will NOT have the patch applied to them (this may change in the future).
- BSMU does NOT add any actual new sounds to your game—only expands the variety of the sounds that are possible to have.
- For the purposes of compatibility with different sound mods, BSMU does NOT create any NEW motor preset or gun preset names that didn't exist before, unlike VSM7.3 (see below)

"VSM7.3+ has its own buttons too. What does BSMU do differently than VSM?"

VSM7's motor sound presets are extended far beyond what was ever done before, meaning that it extends further capabilities to VSM, but this also means that VSM7.3+'s buttons file isn't compatible with other sound mods, while BSMU's buttons is. Additionally, VSM only provides extra control over motor sounds, while BSMU provides extra control over both motor and gun sounds. BSMU can also be switched to only act on guns, so that you can experience VSM7's more diverse motor sounds and have BSMU's more varied set of gun sound presets at the same time.

Multiplayer compatibility notice
If you want to play multiplayer with this mod, it may be advisable for either
1) Everyone in the game to use the mod
or
2) The mod to be disabled for multiplayer
because, as it modifies weapon code, it is possible that the mod might be detected as a cheat.

This is a great improvement for BAT, I have a question:

Is this compatible with Victor's Sound Mod Version 7 or are they incompatible with each other?

This mod was specifically made to work with Victor's Sound Mod, as VSM is included in BAT by default.

VSM6 or 7 are good enough to work with this unlocker.

Been chipping away at its capabilities, along with tweaking the buttons file to further unlock more diverse engine sound possibilities.

Your mod has some additional features ..)) One is good and the other is not very good.
The good thing is that it extends the life of flying shells, and the bad one is that it makes all tracers on all planes white .. :D
If you can, then the first one would be nice to cut into a separate mod .. :)

BAT soundmatrix unlocker is updated to version 1.0.3. Thanks to DESPEREAUX for pointing out the issue with the tracer colors and extended bullet lifetime. The extended bullet lifetime has been added as another option.
