This map_h.tga height map is intended for Nowekat's curved roads version of the otherwise stock Sands of Time map.
Drop this TGA into the map folder containing Nowekat's mod. You can rename the original file as
-map_h.tga
in order to 'deactivate' it but still retain it if you don't like mine.
Because he added some rivers, and some roadway 'valleys', this height map isn't properly applicable to the stock map. Unless one doesn't mind the odd looking 'valleys' coursing about.
I used his assigned landscape textures in the mountains as a guide to fine-tune the locations of higher and lower parts. The principle of aeons of erosion in desert environments has guided the general smoothing and reduction of slope.
The widespread 'pockmarked' desert, looking more like the cratered lunar highlands, or an apocalyptically bombed-out hellscape, has been markedly toned down to a rather smoother surface having gentler undulations.
As with all my mod work, this is offered for use by all and for any purpose, without restriction.
