the SkyPirate was intended to operate from Essex and the new Midway class carriers, it just was too big for the CVL and CVE type carriers;
in the end, it was not needed, because the IJN had virtually ceased to exist and for existing bombing missions, the SB2Cs, TBMs and the Corsair and Hellcat fighter bombers were more than sufficient;
that same fact brought down the Boeing F8B and in the end, Douglas reconsidered what could be needed and came up with the far superior AD Skyraider, while Martin brought its AM Mauler into existence and these were the birds, that showed the way into the future of carrier attack aviation...
but its simply not true, that the SkyPirate was too big for existing large deck carriers, it was just conceived for a role that existing types, which were available in large numbers fit already very well...
bear in mind that only a few years after war, the huge AJ Savage (and the P2V Neptune during trials) was operating from Midway class decks....
