The entry you need is in [Mods] section at the end of the file, called PALMODsColor=0.

Another question: I notice that some DGen campaigns I can DL require Asura's DGen. Is that part of this VP Modpack and/or SAS Selector?

I did not switch to modded dgen because I've read somewhere that it breaks some of the stock dgen campaigns. This was a while ago so it's possible that it was fixed since then. The other problem is that as far as I know Asura dgen campaigns are mostly made for HSFX.

Thanks for the quick response VP.  I got briefing screen back like normal.  You have a lot more entries in your mods section than I do.  Are they necessary or are you tweaking the mod. Inquiring minds want to know.  Thanks again   Brian

Righto, thanks. It's all a bit confusing, all the different modding options and their inter-compatibilities, old stuff and new stuff.
Seeing as you mentioned the PAL Visual Mod v8/9, I have a question regarding those.
I installed v8 via the SAS optional mod pack listed in the SAS Modact thread. I can't for the life of me figure out how the switch between the HUD styles.
So I tried to install v9, but it simply does nothing. I'm installing it via JSGME, as directed in the thread. The .rar I downloaded comes with no manual. I also grabbed the v8 version from his thread, but alas! That also has no manual, and when I tried to install that via JSGME it did nothing. ONLY the version that is in the SAS optional jsgme modpack of the SAS Modact seems to work. Looking at the files, the version in the SAS optional jsgme modpack has a different folder structure, putting the v8 mod into the #SAS folder as well as having an entry in the SFS Auto directory. I'm sure those are why I'm having difficulties, but have no idea how to address these difficulties.
I'm only running the VP Mod and some of the optional mods. Nothing extraneous to those two. Trying to not complicate my install.

I can tell you much about that mod, I used it maybe 3-4 times in the last year because it has an excellent external camera, but in the end I always uninstall it because it seems to slow my game down. The v8 version which is in the jsgme folder is old, v9 has bugfixes which are good to have. Iirc its install was a simple drag and drop operation and it also required a key to be assigned in order to access its menu of options.

I know that modding is confusing for beginner but right now I think you only have 2-3 feasible options, all for 4.12:

-BAT (offline pack, includes all eras)
-VP (offline pack, ww2 only)
-UP3 for 4.12 (online play on SAS server, ww2 and jets)

Installing extra mods requires two things, both need some practice to get right:
- correct folder structure (#SAS\modnameofyourchoice\3do\...\...)
- ini file entries added in the right places

Thanks. I was afraid of that. I have no idea what (if anything) I'm doing wrong. Oh well. I'll get it sorted someday. :D
And yeah, right now I've got vanilla 4.12 Steam install and a VP install. I'll likely do a 4.13 install as well, and perhaps a UP3 or HSFX install to play online (once I get better and stop stalling and crashing into the ground LOL)

The mods from the #SAS folder are loaded in alphabetical order. If you change a folders name it will effect this load order. I just renamed the visualmod folder in a way that it's loaded before most of the mods.

I've run into a problem with running my game with the modpack. I believe everything is installed correctly, however when I get to the main menu, the whole menu doesn't display. Its as if the game screen is zoomed in to the top left corner and only part of the menu screen shows up on my monitor. Additionally I have no control over my mouse, however I am still able to exit the game due to the keyboard shortcuts working. The startup movie shows properly, things just get all off-center once I get to the title menu. Any and all help would be appreciated, thanks.

Maybe the screen resolution is wrong in your conf.ini. Widescreen support was added in 4.10 or 4.11.
