Hello,

Just returned to IL-2 after years! I installed 1946, from a disc. I have, in the past, always used Fairlight's NoCD. Anyway, I updated my 1946 version using the 'SAS IL-2 4.12.2m Mega Patch'. Everything went fine and I was playing it for a week. I then decided to install the VP Modpack. All installed correctly and when I started the selecter.exe, I got the screen and access to the options. But when I went to start IL-2, I just received a message: "The application failed to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application".

I went and tried the standard IL-2 as well, and that would now not start. I had to uninstall IL-2 and remove VP Modpack, reinstall IL-2 and update it again using the Mega Patch. Il-2 1946 is now working again. Does the VP Modpack use that Steam stuff or something? I also don't have IL-2 installed on my C:, O.S. drive, I was wondering whether this Modpack only works on the C: drive? Win-7, x64 I'm running.

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers.

The modpack has been released 3 years ago and since then nobody reported a problem with the pack itself. I'm sure that there can be only minor bugs which will not prevent you from playing the game.
But recently there was a problem with IL-2 1946 where I could not start the game due to Microsoft shutting down some online service as part of ending the Win7 support: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,61766.msg679494.html#msg679494

Has anyone else installed this on a drive other than C:, and had it running? I am thinking it is a DLL dependency, but it must be related to the VP Mod as IL-2 1946, with the Mega Patch, works fine. Error (0xc0000005) seems to have a huge range of sources.  I can see no reference to any Steam calls within the archive.

I am not using this online, so it cannot be anything to do with Micro$oft's fear-mongering.

I can run the game even from an external hdd. It also does not matter from where you got your game, from Steam or installed it from a disk.

Right, thanks for that! That's at least cleared that up. Well, I could find no error log in Windows Event Viewer either, very odd.

I never restarted my computer after installing the VP Modpack. Could it be something that simple?

Thanks, that looks like a real candidate.

All I can add is that if you got the right game version (4.12) and you can extract the 7z without any error message and after extraction theres a #SAS folder in your game directory, you're modpack should work ok.* Any major issues you encounter after that are probably related to hardware, drivers, system files, config, etc.

*There's an install guide linked in the first post, you can take a look at it and see all the important steps in detail.

I have checked my DEP config, and that is set correctly. I have the latest drivers, and everything else is running fine, including IL-2, updated to 4.12 using the Mega Patch. It only goes wrong after extracting the VP Mod to the folder and restarting it. It also destroys my original version of IL-2 1946 and stops that starting as well. I am going to do another install of IL-2 in another folder and experiment with it. The boot-up on my PC has slowed greatly since I installed this as well. I have checked the starup routine and the services and everything seems normal. Very odd.

Your desciptioon really fits the problem I mentioned first (Windows Games Explorer bug on Win7) because the same thing happened on my pc, neither the mod nor the stock game started and there was a rundll32 process running which created 100% processor load slowing down the whole system and only went away after shuting down the process manually or restart...and I was not playing online.

Vpmedia, I was monitoring my CPU usage, services, processes etc, through Task Manager and there seemed nothing untoward. Tell me, this Modpack it is replacing the original executable, yes? Now, as I mentioned in my first post, I used to always run this with the NoCd.exe from Fairlight. Does your executable make calles to the malware poison called SecuRom?
Once this Modpack has been installed, does the new .exe make calls via SecuRom for a 'getdrivetypea' routine? Does the disc need to be in the tray?

Cheers.

All modpacks include some kind of "NoCD" exe too.
No SecuRom with any mod.
