1.  Is it just me, but isn't it perhaps unfortunate that the NEVER MIX observation appeared on p. 86 of the responses?  I would have thought it should have been right up there on the front page.

dunno what youre talking about :D
define mixing

I guess you'd better ask Max_the_Hitman about that. It's his phrase.

Yes, that is what I mean. I personally would not mix other Big mod-packages, like CUP for example, with my VP-Modpack
just so I will not have any problems. They are all put together in a different way and have folders named differently.
I would rather have a separate game install using the CUP-modpack which would not be
mixed together with the VP-Modpack files. But that is just my personal thoughts, it is up to you to do it if you want.
Besides that, I just want to include certain airplanes I want to use and other mod-addons. It is my choice of game.

Hi all,
I am new to Il2 and want to install the VP mod.
I have downloaded the Mega patch (Ver 4.12.2m), the VP Mod Pack and the Paint Schemes patch.

I ordered Il-1946 online, but when I received the DVD it was instead the Il2 Ultimate Edition, which apparently includes:
Il 2 Forgotton Battles
Ace Expansion Pack
Il2 1946
Pacific Fighters.

I installed this onto my Windows 7 PC (moved into the C drive from the default install to programs x86).  The game runs and is already at version 4.11.1m.

My question is what is the best way to install patches to get it to the required version 4.12.2m - use the VP Mega Patch or install the separate patch version 12.

Thanks.

Just overwrite what you have with the Mega Patch, since you have already downloaded it.
Then run the game and check it says 4.12.2 at the startup screen.
I would also load a mission, just to be sure its working ok.

Then you can install VPModPack

How do you access the DCG???

Lowengrin's Dynamic Campaign Generator is not part of the package. You have to install it in order to be able to access it.

The very same, although these days I'm more tied up as a skinner for 'Wings Over Flanders Fields', the WW1 flight sim by OBD.

Thanks for your rapid response.
I've installed the Mega Patch, then the VP Mod Pack.
When I run the game I get the Il-2 1946 SAS splash screen, but after that everything seems the same as the original Il2 Ultimate Edition install.
I haven't patch yet to mod patch 12, but am I missing something?

I'm by no means sure, but I was always under the impression that one specifically needed Il-2 1946 for modding. If this is true, I believe that it is available at very little cost at Good Old Games. I think the version there is 4.13, but there is a downloadable file available with it that reduces the game back to 4.10, I think it is, from which one can then apply the Mega Patch, followed by the (highly commendable) VPModpack.

Thank you for all your work with EAW and upon WOFF. Two great sims. Here we have another one, we like to think.

Look in the game folder for IL-2 Selector.exe
Launch with the Selector. Change the settings, Game Type to SAS ModAct, Change RAM Useage to 512MB, assuming you have at least that much RAM.
Then click on Start IL-2

VPModPack runs under SASModAct.

Thankfully, it seems I'm wrong.

Edit: Ah, sorry. Seasonal cerebral shutdown. Your Ultimate Edition contains '46. I think there was an earlier similarly-named release which pre-dated the release of Il-2 1946. This confused me, which is not difficult.
