G'day Mate

I'm not a Linux user, but not getting single missions to work has sparked my curiosity.

Please post 2 screenshots, 1 inside the missions folder and the other inside the singles folder.

Hello genXgamer,

It would take at least 3 screenshots to include all of the "missions" folder. Do you want to see the contents of the entire folder?
When you say "singles" folder, do you mean the sub folder inside the missions folder named "Single"?

Hi tomhighway

When you say single missions won't work, are the missions viewable?

They're in folders like below?

G'day

So you have your folders organised by aircraft type, that's fine.
I prefer by mission name but that's personal choice.

Are those folders sizes correct or does it need to be refreshed?

4.1 kilobyte is too small for a mission and they come in all different sizes.

There are missions in those folders?

That's how the game organized them during install. I didn't change it.

4.1 kilobytes is the size of the folder itself, not including what's in it. That's just the way Linux presents it. You can do a right click and then "properties", and it gives you the size of the folder including contents.

Yes, there are missions in all the folders.

And the contents of those mission folders are identical on all the different installs of the game I currently have. I think I have about 9 or 10 installs of 1946. I have 4.07, 4.12.2, 4.13.4, on 3 different hard drives on this computer, plus a couple on a couple other computers. I also have a couple of installs with VPMod, and one with YPack. The YPack install runs perfectly. They all do except for the VPMod installs.

Yeah, sorry mate.

I was hoping it was a case of something as simple as wrong folder structure.
This VP Modpack install has been nothing but trouble for you.

Maybe:   Linux + VP Modpack = Headaches.

I'm beginning to think so, myself.

In case it might help, here is the error I get when trying to load the Single mission, "P51D Hit and Run near Chiran", from the USAAF Single mission folder. It's the same effect no matter what Single mission I try to run, but I didn't notice if it's the same file that won't load in all of them.

G'day tomhighway

This looks like a map loading error.

When you were in the mission briefing screen did the map display?

Incase you haven't already done so, activate the deactivated all.ini in the MAPS folder.

Go into the MAPS folder, there should be 2 files all.ini and -all.ini.
Because you cant have 2 files named the same put the all.ini somewhere safe, then rename the -all.ini removing the minus sign.
The Japan map is found in this all.ini with another 100 or so maps.
In the FMB it is written as Kyushu mod though.

Apologies once again if I'm going over stuff you already know.

P.S.   Found your info on the Turn/Slip gauge very useful.

I will give that a try. Thank you.

Something else I just found out....... all of the Single missions will play except the American ones. No USAAF, or USN Single missions will load. They give an error like the one above, but for different maps. All the other countries Single missions will load and play.

(edit)  Hmmm... I don't have a MAPS folder. In the SAS folder I have some MAPMODS folders, but no "MAPS" folder.

(2nd edit) Ok... I found the MAPS folder inside the MAPMODS folder. There is also one named "maps".  Did as you suggested and it didn't make a difference.  I also have 2 dgen folders in the root folder. One is "DGen", and the other is "Dgen".

Are you referring to the comment I made on a Youtube video?

Yep, Sgt_Fresh's (Douglas) video, nice way to spend my lunch breaks at work.

A couple of weeks ago I was looking into something myself and did a fresh VP Modpack install, it was a week or 2 after BSmooth's install problems.
My clean install has MAPS and DGen folders, the fact that you have 2 of each can only lead to no good.

I have a feeling there's no major thing wrong just folder structures need to be cleaned up, but that's my observation from all the way here in OZ.

If you can tell where you got the mission mentioned earlier using the Japan01 map I'll test it myself.
