Map font - character set
« on: September 06, 2020, 04:54:07 AM »

Hi, guys,

I'm working on missions for the "Central Europe Summer - Lynx 23" map. The only problem is that incorrect characters are showing in Czech placenames. See the attached screenshot.

For example, È should be Č; è should be č; Ø should be Ř; ø should be ř. There are other incorrect characters too.

I'm using the latest BAT 3.8.5, straight out of the box. The only JSGME mods activated are VSM Sound Mod 7.3; NG-CAM 1.6; NG-HUD 3.5H; NG-MAP 3.1; DEF-SKIES for all modules; Clouds New HD 3.

Any suggestions/solutions?

Many thanks,

Strawkalling

there is a text file in each map that controls the names on a map. Maybe these are typos by the mapmaker of some sort? (not the first that i saw...) Special characters are sometimes a problem if you live elsewhere.

In theory that is fixable ... interested in doing it?
I could give you the file necessary.

Vampire,

By all means! If it's a question of editing a txt file, then sure. This also would apply to the autumn version of the same map.

But these don't look like typos to me, more like a different character encoding being used, perhaps not even ASCII.

A question:

Looks like the issue is to do with the characters being Unicode, and not part of the ANSI set. Will a txt file in Unicode format be compatible with Il-2 1946 maps?

Okay, hopefully this will work! I've not used Mediafire to share files before, but there's always a first time!

I've edited the texts.txt file for the CSR maps, and saved them using 16-bit Unicode. I presume this will work okay in Il-2 1946.

Do let me know if this does or doesn't work! If it does I'll be more than happy to edit problem names files for other maps.
