Italian and Japanese submarines
« on: September 14, 2020, 02:20:40 PM »

After spending days fumbling with my own class files to no avail, I've finally decided to swallow my pride and issue a request.
As you probably know, there're NO Italian submarines (stock or mods) in this game, and the few Japanese submarines available (I-400 and Ro-500) are nothing but novelty items instead of strategically important classes of ships.
Someone has already requested the quite numerous I-15 class/Type B1, but I reckon this aircraft carrying-sub would be too challenging to be undertaken casually, so may I suggest the following:
Kaichu VII/Ro-35 class SSK

It's "generic" enough to not require much change from exiting stock/mod SSK, and numerous enough to actually fight a war (not just a "collector's novelty item").
Kaichū VII (Ro-35)
Displacement
Surfaced   960 long tons (975 t)
Submerged   1,447 long tons (1,470 t)
Length (overall)   80.50 m (264 ft 1 in)
Beam   7.05 m (23 ft 2 in)
Draft   4.07 m (13 ft 4 in)
Power plant and shaft   2 × Kampon Mk.22 Model 10 diesels 2 shafts
Power
Surfaced    4,200 bhp
Submerged 1,200 shp
Speed   19.8 knots (36.7 km/h)
Submerged   8.0 knots (14.8 km/h)
Range
Surfaced   5,000 nmi (9,300 km) at 16 knots (30 km/h)
Submerged   45 nmi (83 km) at 5 knots (9.3 km/h)
Test depth   80 m (260 ft)
Fuel   218 tons
Complement   61
Armament (initial)
• 4 × 533 mm (21 in) TTs
(4 × front)
• 10 × Type 95 torpedoes
• 1 × 76.2 mm (3.00 in) L/40 11th Year Type AA gun
• 2 × Type 96 25mm AA guns
Acciaio class SSK

A superb sub for its size, the Italians get no love despite having some excellent naval vessels (that sometimes exceed their German counterparts).
Displacement:
697 long tons (708 t) surfaced
850 long tons (864 t) submerged
Length:   60.18 m (197 ft 5 in)
Beam:   6.44 m (21 ft 2 in)
Draught:   4.78 m (15 ft 8 in)
Propulsion:
2 diesel engines, 1,400 hp (1,000 kW)
2 electric motors, 800 bhp (600 kW)
Speed:
14 knots (26 km/h; 16 mph) surfaced
7.7 knots (14.3 km/h; 8.9 mph) submerged
Range:   3,180 nmi (5,890 km) at 10.5 kn (19.4 km/h) surfaced
Test depth:   80 m (260 ft)
Complement:   45
Armament:
1 × 100 mm (4 in) / 47 caliber deck gun
1-2 × 20mm/70 AA
6 × 533 mm (21 in) torpedo tubes (4 forward, 2 aft)
12 × torpedoes

Thanks in advance

Works for me. I'd definitely use an Italian submarine in a Mediterranean campaign.

If you need plans of these subs, just ask  :)
example - Italian Classe  600 subs:

Japanese RO-35 & RO-41
