OK guys, before you get mad at me for posting something that I'm sure has already been, please consider that I am old (78 last month) and not as smart as you fellers.  I have always downloaded and installed any patches, etc that appear here in this forum.  Nothing else.  Anyway-before this "Red Core" and "Blue Edge", I had BAT running up to 3.85.  Running well.  I downloaded Blue Edge and installed it successfully.  Then I noticed Red Core.  I very seldom play anything except WAW.  What I am wondering is, with my comments above,  do I need to install Red Core?  Over the top of 3.85?  What would happen to Blue Edge and the rest of my game?  I have downloaded all the zip files for both and saved them to a external drive.  Should I just retain them as a backup if needed?  Any advice you folks would share would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.  And please excuse some of this for being fairly cryptic.  And remember the "old".

ole navy just install red core then blue edge on top your good to go,kev

Install Red Core by itself first (as a completely new installation on top of IL-2 1946 4.12.2), then install Blue Edge on top of Red Core.  That is it.

I would recommend the other stuff, like the skin pack, the Single Mission pack, the DGEN for BAT after that installation.

OK, I already thanked you guys for your help, and it was sincere.  But if you will permit me - I  have one more question then I promise I will leave you alone (hopefully).  Both of you told me to install Red Core then Blue Edge over it.  But what would be the difference of using the "BAT 3.8x to BAT 4.1 upgrade"?  Would the results be the same?  My poor old feeble mind can't figure some stuff out any longer (not that I was really able to before), and this is just one of those times.  Thank you again.

The functionality per se is not different.  What you are getting is saving about 20 GB of hard drive space, a clean install, plus of course the new features of 4.0 (WAW) & 4.1 (DOF/TGA/JTW).

Since you are a WW2 nut like I am, in WAW you are getting the crazy new "UFO", and the Ju-87D-4 carrier version (alternate history stuff), and there are a few maps, and the awesome ship-pack.

You say you already installed Blue Edge 4.1 - on top of your old game I presume.
If so, leave the update alone! That train has passed for you then.

Install Red Core again on top of your game and then install Blue Edge again! on top of your game. Then you are good to go.

no need to start from scratch or try anything else clever.
Just 4.0 Red Core and then again 4.1 Blue Edge. That is the simple recovery for all BAT recovery needs.

Thank you.  The "start from scratch" you mentioned has always scared me a little bit.  What concerns me is that there are more than several things, I'm guessing, that can go wrong.  Then my game would be broken and I don't have enough knowledge anymore to fix it.  I have, over the years, tried to save a bunch of stuff like all the mods, etc.  Now I guess, with these two Blue Edge and Red Core, that I can finally "dump" all those many and varied files?  I don't have much room left on my hard drive and I know it would appreciate it.  Thanks again to all you folks.  You have always gone out of your way to help those of us who are kinda old and kinda not very smart.

I suppose so.
That was why we made 4.0 and 4.1 now. Just two packages instead of a dozen before.

For a backup you will only need those two anymore: 4.0 and 4.1.
