US Navy /Marine carrier missions /campaigns?
« on: October 26, 2020, 08:42:33 AM »

Due to a computer glitch recently I lost all my SM & Camapaigns, which viewed from a certain angle is a blessing : a clean out can be a good thing. Since I was only playing Carrier Missions in IL-2 BAT ,I’m now looking to pack the game with these kind of SM’s & campaigns. Can someone suggest where most of these might be found ? I’ve just checked out M4 and downloaded most there but I’m sure I had more...any ideas? ;)

We've just gone through the following campaigns using DCG with HSFX...
Midway
Marianas
Tarawa
Iwo Jima

All carrier-based.

We're currently on Okinawa flying from the Intrepid, again, DCG and HSFX.  If DCG works with BAT (which I confess I'm not sure about) then I'd recommend that as an option given that it generates the missions for you and is dynamic in nature (your mission success/failure can affect the campaign).

What’s the easiest way to find & download them quickly?  Since I play Great Battles & Cliffs of Dover Desert Wings most of the time, I’ll- BAT is the way to go for Carrier Ops ( The Pacific Theater is a year or two away at the very soonest at GB.) With the newest BAT WW2 dedicated it seems to the perfect place to be a dedicated “Pacific theater Carrier “ sim. ;)

Recommend you research DCG under the BAT forums.  The campaigns are generated by DCG.
Lowengrin's Dynamic Campaign Generator (DCG) is a 3rd-party app you'll need to download.  It uses existing IL2 maps and objects to put together the campaigns however I'm not sure how compatible it is with BAT given all the 'new' objects etc.

DCG works perfectly with BAT IF the campaign is created for BAT.  I have made one DCG/BAT campaign where you can fly USN Wildcat, Avenger or Dauntless (not in Pacific, though):

If the campaign is created for vanilla IL2 it should work, too. If the campaign is created for another modpack than BAT it may or may not work.

Note that campaigns created for DCG 3.48 or older are not compatible with DCG 3.49 or 3.50 beta versions without modification.

Good points Shakaali;
We've had some issues with the Okinawa campaign in that DCG assigned Russian markings (and voices) to some of the US and Brit squadrons and even one of the Japanese squadrons which kept showing up as a Red squadron instead of Blue.
I solved the issue by getting rid of the HMS Illustrious and all Brit squadrons and adding USS Shamrock Bay and USS Kitkun Bay and reassigning the US squadrons to those ships.
I tracked the Japanese/Russian assignment (Ki-46 Dinah) to the squadron names. Once I changed the Japanese Army Squadron name in DCG to a Japanese Navy Squadron, problem solved.

In some of the previous campaigns, some of the map grids were slightly off too but we were able to work around that.

I'll find the utility & download it but can you explain how it works?

DCG replaces the default dynamic campaign generators, single player DGEN and multiplayer NGEN.

What do I need to do with it?

1. Download it
2. Unzip it to a folder
3. Launch il2dcg.exe. DCG panel opens. DCG will most probably ask for the location of il2fb.exe, point where it is.
4. Tick "Replace Career Generator (DGen)" for single player mode or "Replace Coop Campaign Generator (NGen)" for multiplayer mode in the DCG main screen
5. Tick "Off Line Career (Full Auto-Generation Mode)" in the DCG main screen.

If you have downloaded a thid party campaign:

6. Select "Optional Third Party Data Folder"  and locate the allcampaigns.dcg from downloaded campaign folder

Launch Il2 and start campaign as usual.

Note that DCG campaigns can't be played in Dgen/Ngen and vice versa. However, it is easy to restore Dgen/Ngen: just launch DCG and untick  "Replace Career Generator (DGen)"/ "Replace Coop Campaign Generator (NDGen)" and "Off Line Career (Full Auto-Generation Mode)"
