CAMS 141
« on: October 31, 2020, 11:28:08 PM »

The Potez-CAMS 141 was to be the main representative of new generation of  French seaplanes, replacing the Bizerte and other aircraft developed in accordance to 1930 requirements. Hevaily armed, with a crew of 9 to 12 men. only 1 sample, named "Antares" was in service in  May-June 1940 and went to serve under Vichy (downing a British Swordfish) and under the Free French (sinking a German submarine, the only French built aircraft having done so - though there is recent evidence tending to indicate that an antiquated Late 290 also did so in September 1939, a few days after the outbreak of ww2). The CAMS also served as a flying benchmark for the Aeronavale. testing various armaments developed and tested on ground before June 1940 but not in flight, such as a quadruple gun turret developed in collaboration with Boulton Paul and a 25mm cannon - in service it was soon re-armed standard equipment of 5 single Darne machine guns.
This mod shows it in early and late configuration (= after its nose was rebuilt)

The "Open Cockpit" command will open the gun positions hatches and move the gunners in position, as well as popping up the rear lateral position's machine guns.

You'll need my new French bomb pack for this plane

and these files too

What remains to be done:
2) add the D1, D2 and CAP files in the hier.him

The link for the plane

Air.ini addition:
CAMS_141_1939       air.CAMS141  1                     NOINFO  f01   SUMMER
CAMS_141_1941       air.CAMS141bis  1                     NOINFO  f01   SUMMER

Feel free to finalize and upgrade this plane where needed.
Enjoy

The plane has been tested in 4.122 modact 5.30, so will probably run smoothly also in BAT

Thank you, DreamK.

A single protoype, but yet an interesting design and record.  Thank you again for this and many other planes and flying boats.

Cheers,

Not a prototype but the first produced aircraft of a series of 4 , production interrupted by the French defeat in June 1940.

DreamK,

Interesting ... was there another prototype, was there only one flying CAMS 141 (the Antares)? Did it enter service in September 1939 as stated in Wikipedia?

By the way, thank you for the latest series of seaplanes and flying boats - very rare entities to see in any sim.

Cheers,

I've got this elegant bird working OK, but after many trial combinations of skin file names I can't get the game to see them. Can somebody tell me the correct name for the skins folder?

Thanks, Gil
