fixing cockpit view clip-outs
« on: November 10, 2020, 01:47:44 AM »

Since this here thread:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,64986.0.html

...I have become more experienced in applying the NormZNs function in the cockpit classes and have been working on improving a few more, to reduce or even eliminate the "clip out effects" that is created by the "invisibility bubble".

Here is what I did to the He-115 for example:

before:

after:

The function is not a "miracle" and has its own limitations but it can improve things for sure.

So, if you know of any aircraft that suffer particularly from a viewing clip-out, let me know, I may be able to take a look before the next update.

Wow!  It is very good!  I had to meet a similar phenomenon.

Farman 4, DOF, vampire. One of the best looking aircraft in the entire sim, but the clipping makes it unflyable for me. Please.

okay, this one is tricky.

it requires out-of-the box approach and the NormZNs is just one parameter. I revised the hier.him also a little bit and basically made a bubble that just makes the pilot head invisible. In consequence, you can see your legs and arms in this "pit". (this is only feasible in this plane since there is nothing else in the pit! It won't work in other planes, don't get ideas.)

I'm not good at it. But that you can see the body of the pilot, it's cool :D

CR.32 an upper part of the Struts
These I've noticed when modding them myself:
Hurricanes (all Models)
Avengers (all Models)

 ;)

This is neat work Vamp, much apreciated and tedious task.

Best wishes

The situation with the Do 217E is pretty bad.  :( But that's caused by the choice of stand-in cockpit, which has been taken from the Do 217K1/M1 series. As The nose architecture of the latter was completely different from that of the earlier 217s (being of the 'goldfish bowl' variety with vestigial instrument panels hanging from side and overhead mounts) we have a terrible mismatch.  :o

However, I notice that the Do 17Z also uses a stand-in cockpit, but taken from the Ju 88A series, which works well, as both aircraft featured a full-width instrument panel and an open glazed 'beetle eye' nose. As this arrangement was also shared by the Do 217E series, I wonder whether the Ju 88A cockpit would be a more appropriate choice?

Heinkel He 60 - upper wing:

There is a problem with struts to floats too, but this is something different...
