A6M1 Type 0 Prototype
« on: December 28, 2020, 07:05:30 AM »

The A6M1 has been completed in March 1939, powered by the 580 kW (780 hp) Mitsubishi Zuisei 13 engine with a two-blade propeller. Early models were fitted with servo tabs on the ailerons after pilots complained that control forces became too heavy at speeds above 300 kilometres per hour (190 mph).
In fact, the engine generated 83% of the power of the improved version, the A6m2-11, which also solved a vibration problem caused by the 2-blade propeller.
It would be a great opportunity to test this Japanese super machine from the beginning.

A year of 2021 with great health and peace for all. :) :-|

can you add references that describe the external differences other than the 2-blade prop and please add some detailed engine specifications?

Dear Vampire and friend pilots,
I searched in all the languages available on Google, as well as on 12 sites indicated, and what is said is that there was only the
engine upgrade, from Suizei13-780hp to Sakae12-940hp, and also the 3-blade propeler, which solved the vibration problem that was
pointed out as the effect of the 2-blade propeler. In addition, he maintained the same external characteristics in the next model,
the A6M2 Type0 model11. It did not have an arrestor hook, it had the retractable landing gear and was armed with a pair of 20 mm vz guns. 99 on the wing and a pair of synchronized vz machine guns. 7.7 mm 97 caliber stored in the fuselage in front of the cabin

In the Spanish language it is said that the Prototype reached 489 km / h, only surpassing this speed with the third model and the
 Sakae12 engine.

In the French and Russian language it appears that the 2 helice blades had a variable pitch.

The Mitsubishi Zuisei (瑞星, Holy Star) was a 14-cylinder, supercharged, air-cooled, two-row radial engine. Has major aplications
in Kawanishi E7K2, Kawasaki Ki-45, Mitsubishi F1M, Mitsubishi C5M, Mitsubishi Ki-46-I, Mitsubishi Ki-51.
The version MK2C Zuisei 13 got 1,080 horsepower (810 kW), 2700 rpm at take-off, and 950 horsepower (710 kW) 2600 rpm at 6,000 metres (20,000 ft). In Matsuoka Hisamitsu, Nakanishi Masayoshi. The History of Mitsubishi Aero Engines 1915-1945. Miki Press, Japan, 2005. ISBN 4-89522-461-9, reportedly used in Prototype A6M1.

I got only the Specifications to MK2A Zuisei 11
General characteristics
Type: 14-cylinder, air-cooled, supercharged, two-row radial piston engine
Bore: 140 mm (5.5 in)
Stroke: 130 mm (5.1 in)
Displacement: 28.0 L (1,710 in³)
Diameter: 1,118 mm (44.0 in)
Dry weight: 540 kg (1,190 lb)
Components
Valvetrain: pushrod operated, Two overhead valves per cylinder
Supercharger: centrifugal single stage single speed
Fuel type: 87 octane rating gasoline
Cooling system: air-cooled
Performance
Compression ratio: 6.5

There is a majority among the articles the A6M1 reached and surpassed the demands of the IJN, that is, a speed of 500 km / h at 4,000 meters of altitude and an altitude gain of 3,000 meters in 9.5 minutes. Flight duration with suspended tanks should be two hours in normal mode to 6 to 8 hours in economy mode. The track is less than 70 meters. The armament must consist of two 20 mm weapons, two 7.7 mm machine guns and two 30 or 60 kilogram bombs. All aircraft must be equipped with complete sets of radio equipment, including a steering locator. Maneuverability must remain at the same level as the A5M, with a wingspan of less than 12 meters to accommodate the aircraft carrier.
So far this is what I found, I will continue to look for something that can differentiate A6M1 from A6M2, and I anticipate thanks to anyone  who can assist in the search to enrich this request.  ;)

Additional information: in my game, BAT 4.1.1 - WAW - BAT_Crimea map, at 4000 meters, the models A6M2-11 and A6M-11 (Japancat) with FM from the Sakae engine, reached only a speed of 397Km / h. :o

I guess it makes sense the A6M having a 2 bladed prop as it's a design evolution from the A5M Claude.. it would be a nice addition of there's any information on the aircraft.

Good call on your part kirk1965. It would be interesting to see how the A6M1 flies and handles if she gets the attention.
