WASP among eagles - for the flyers
« on: December 29, 2020, 09:09:28 AM »

back in 2016 mexchiwa made a WASP campaign, which inspired this one. It is not a remake, it is something new. It is something you want to try only if you love the flying part in the game. There will be no bombs to drop, no killcount, no enemies to shoot at (you will be shot at though. On occasion).

It's something to take your time for, if you feel inclined.

(comic art by Romain Hugault)

W.A.S.P. among Eagles  -  Woman's Air Service Pilot

A 29 mission campaign for BAT 4.1.1

"So, you want to become a pilot? We'll see about that..."

"Roll out the Airplanes, we've got a job to do...."

The Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) was a civilian women pilots' organization, whose members were United States federal civil service employees. Members of WASP became trained pilots who tested aircraft, ferried aircraft, and trained other pilots. Their purpose was to free male pilots for combat roles during World War II. Take the role of an aspiring WASP from the first private flying lessons in 1940, through basic training and inital service, to eventually become a fighter test pilot.

All missions and events are based on true stories, mostly taken from Ann Carl's book "A WASP among Eagles". A lot of the briefings are her own words. But the actual career you will play is that of a fictional character (29 missions). You will enter WASP flight training and graduate W-43-3 and fly a wide variety of trainers, transports, bombers and fighters.

Stearmans, Texans, Bobcats, Airacobras, Mustangs, Superfortresses... you name it.

There are no maps for the USA, I took what looked about plausible from above. Don't let the fake names on the maps fool you! They are there to confuse Nazi spies.

There are NO WAYPOINTS in this campaign!
Navigation and hands on flying are the main objective. You cannot use autopilot. There will be no killcount, no bombs delivered, but you will have objectives to fulfill and places to go.

If you like just flying, then this might just be the thing for you.
If this sounds boring to you, then maybe just move on.

Enjoy the flying and take your time for this campaign. You will have radio stations available for a nice tune. You will also have to navigate using radio beacons in some missions.

-Please use the indicated pilot skins as per mission briefings.
-Select HIGHEST Rank - you have to take command at one point.

These settings are suggested:
-No Instant Success  - Off
-Realistic Navigation - On
-No Player Icon - On
-No Minimap Path - On
-set flightmodel realism to your liking

enjoy 8)

I'm having this issue when I try to use the WASP pilot skins. After loading one of these skins I have to reboot the game to get the other skins to display correctly in the Piper. Is this something to do with the newly updated Cub?

The piper pilot is a different 3d model! A regular pilot skin does not match!  I do think this was like this before.

I didn't indicate a pilot skin in that mission iirc? That starts with mission 2.

Yes, thank you. I tested those pilot skins in the other planes and they are fine. My first lady pilot is just going to look a bit "Butch". LOL

One screenie, just because this is great. Highly recommend this for anyone afraid of realistic navigation.
I said it before, but thanks again.  ;D

This is awesome, it honors some little known women who served the nation as best they could at the time. Thanks for this.

It was a pleasure.

Since Mabel Rawlinson's accident is referred to in one of the missions.

Thanks for all the work that had to go into this project. I'm 68 yrs young. My father had a close friend who was a civilian pilot trainer and mechanic. He let me sit in his Piper Cub when I was about 5 or 6 yrs old and I still remember. This experience, and more importantly, my father's love for aviation (radio controlled airplane kits, and regular family visits to hamburger joints then parking at Midway Airport to watch the flights... you could do that in those bi-gone days).

More importantly, your work and the creative contributions of all the modders on this site, contribute to spreading the awareness of the history of aviation and how many people have taken part in the development of real aviation.

Thanks all
