BackgroundThis is the story of a little known ad hoc group of Romanian airmen who flew in support of the Axis armies desperately defending against the powerful Russian armies who had launched an attack to encircle Stalingrad and all those within. Download link:
https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=2921.The main Romanian Air Force (FARR under Luftflotte 4) had suffered heavy losses and had been returned to the homeland to rest and re-equip. A few aircrew volunteered to remain behind to continue support, especially for the German 6th Army and the poorly equipped Romanian 3rd Army fighting on the Chir River Front, near the Don River bend.

The group consisted initially of ten Bf109E4 fighters and six He111H3 bombers. They fought in dwindling numbers through January 1943 in hectic conditions, with little hope of supply in either men or machines. Very few records survived so it was hard to find detailed information on their operations so an educated guess has been made as to what happened. Their Luftwaffe commander, Wolfram von Richthofen, thought very fondly of the Romanian airmen, although not so of the poorly led armies. He could offer little practical help as the German and other Axis units all had supply problems of their own.
Due to the current map limitations we have based the unit at Tuzov rather than Novotcherkassk airbase, further south. This has made the missions shorter but more intense for the player.

We have arranged this as two campaigns, one flying the He111 bombers and the other flying the Bf109 fighters.
You will be flying 6 missions in increasingly poor weather, dwindling numbers of aircraft, and increasing air opposition. Can you survive?
Break a leg, Lars.
Installation & Compatibility. This version of Romanians over the Don is built and tested using the BAT Modpack’s WAW module and the VP Modpack. The download link includes separate zip files so choose the right zip for your installation.
The installation zip file contains both the Bf-109 fighter campaign and the He-111 bomber campaign. Unzip the Download file into a temporary directory. Copy the Missions directory into your game root folder.
CreditsThis campaign was written and conceived by Lars and implemented in the FMB by Von. We both wish to thank VP Media and SAS for their wonderful IL-2 Mod packs, as well as Cyberolas for providing the Stalingrad map repaint that we use.
He-111 skin used in the BAT version is by VP Media.
