1930s/40s Electric Tram Car
« on: February 15, 2021, 10:41:10 AM »

Hi Guys ,

This is a simple request , so I will endeavour to make it simply.

We all love a variety of ground targets , and I feel that this one would add some excellent immersion to the larger cities
populating all the great maps of this game.

Has anyone modeled a 1930s or 40s electric tram car ?
Here is a nice example from Manila in the Philippines :

I will refrain from searching out and trying to list the cities which used such vehicles to get the population around - suffice it to say these were ubiquitous to most metropolitan cities world-round.

Salzburg , Austria :

There is some possibility that such a mod has already been made and included in one of the recent modpacks.
I still fly HSFX7.0.3 for my own reasons which only HSFX satisfies , so if you know of such a mod , please inform me
of which modpack and under what name it exists , but kindly refrain from suggesting I move to a newer modpack.

How do I envision this mod ?
Such a vehicle could be included in the vehicular list , but in my mind best fits into the train category. I won't be picky.
A model could be made , or an existing object , such as Locomotive D-311A* , or D-311B* could be substituted ,
repainted , and an electrode added.
There should be a Chief.ini version , whether Train or Vehicle , and a Stationary , and a destroyed version ( any existing destroyed
locomotive could be substituted to save work , but ideally an original could be created.
The trick would be getting the occasinal spark to appear from the electrode.
The spark already exists in the game in certain wheels up landing situations, so I wonder if this art and effect could be adapted ,
rather than re-inventing the wheel ?

If anyone wanted to get fancy , versions could be made for a singleton car , or a double :

Anyhow , I though this would be interesting and utile.
I hope someone else does/has.

The collection from AviaSkins is I believe in B.A.T. but the link gives you the option to add them to your own install, please be
aware though I do not have H.S.F.X. myself so you will need to do the test. :D

I was going to try and make the pylons used to supply trams with power but unfortunately have not got around to it yet. :-[

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

I think the trams should be treated as vehicles given that they were essentially the same as buses in an urban environment.  The rails could be a simple decal on a city street to avoid having to retexture the map itself I assume.  :)

If memory serves I set up the tram both as a car so that it could be used in the city and also as a train as many city trams do at some time run on normal railway infrastructure. ;)

Within cities usually the rails are buried into the existing road surface leaving just the surface the wheels sit on visible so a re-texture should not really be necessary, however, it could add a little extra effect to the scene providing those lines could be seen.

Have you sent this suggestion to someone like SAS~vampire_pilot ? If not, please do.
