Following some observations and discussions recently, an affirmation of an old forum rule is in order.
We are almost 2 decades into our favorite sim, IL2, and in this time, many modders, skinners, mission makers and such, have come and gone. Some are still around but many have moved on.
Another category or player has emerged: The Collector.
Some players, who are not modders, skinners or mission makers themselves, have amassed vast or interesting collections of mods, skins and missions. Many of these are not available anymore from the authors, or not available on this site. Many are hard to find on the web. Many are impossible to find. These are things they did not make or edit themselves. Just collected over the years.
It is thus just logical to allow these collectors to be able to start new topics in the download sections to re-share these things.
This has ALWAYS been allowable at SAS. The only rule is:
~Provide credit to the original author.
~And if the original credits are not known: State it so, and if the author or someone else then later comes and identifies it, edit your original post to include those credits.
~If you accidentally give the wrong credits, and the correct credits are provided later, simple edit your original post. No problem.
To make this easier, we are creating a usergroup called "Collectors" for such people who have these things to share. This will give them the ability to start new topics in the download sections.
All the same rules and best practices will apply to these posts as to other mod or skin or other download posts: For example: The download must be a direct link to the file. Provide as much info as you can about installation and version. Tech support in these cases may have to be more of a community effort. Pictures make for prettier posts. etc.
To become part of this usergroup, simply PM me.
Very simple!
