I have some bad news: Edc1, i.e. Stan Roberts passed away the day before yesterday. He suffered a massive heart attack.

This came as quite a chock to me. He was a bit elderly but had no big health problems, had survived the Corona, and had just started working on a Crete campaign of his own when it happened. For once it was me helping him there, rather than the other way around.

Almost all of my old campaigns have now been converted to BAT, and this monumental (and time costly) enterprise would NOT have been done without Stan, I assure you. (Especially the really big ones: "Years of Triumph" and "Courage Alone" - and soon "Raging Eagles".)

Stan made a BIG and yet pretty anonymous contribution to the community. And now he is gone. Just like that. Very sad.

Sad news indeed. The thing we all have in common is an abiding fascination with this game. It has grown and developed over the years to the point where it can justly qualify as a collective work of technological art. Hundreds (thousands?) of people have contributed to it over the years, starting with Oleg and continuing with all of us. It is certain that it will outlive every one of us, and so will our contributions to it - they are digitally preserved forever. It's a form of immortality, in a way. As a wise man once said: "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." We all like to surround ourselves with what we love, and it's plain that Stan loved IL2. His joy and enthusiasm will stay within it for as long as people remain interested in playing flight sims... So. my grateful thanks to Stan - and all those who follow in his footsteps.
