North Vietnam BB/VPMedia - Redux

I have been reworking/repopulating (not in the biblical sense) BB's North Vietnam Map: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,8274.0.html for over two years.

Latest update provided with BAT 4.2 Flash Point


Please provide any feedback or anomalies.  If I can I'll try to fix them.
My goal was to get the runways and taxiways to be somewhat accurate.  After going road by road when I was making Korat, I decided to take some... artistic licenses with the rest.

If your computer has a hard time, takes a while to load, ruins frame rates, I don't care.

I have tried to get taxing and stay points to work the past week with jets and they are temperamental.  Looking at some other maps, the creators didn't even bother trying, I will not be pursuing landing/taxi/stay points any further.

Install:
Only Thailand and North Vietnam Airfields complete at this point.
Taxi works at some fields doesn't at others.

Just drag and drop, no need to update all.ini/textures/etc...

Drop BB_Vietnam_War into:  (Drive):\(IL-2 Folder)\#JTW3\MAPMODS\Maps <-drop BB_Vietnam_War into Maps folder
Should look like:          (Drive):\(IL-2 Folder)\#JTW3\MAPMODS\Maps\BB_Vietnam_War


How to play?
Load BAT JTW (only works int JTW) go to FMB select "MAP" -> *Korea and Vietnam* -> North Vietnam - BB/VPMedia

Overwrites older airfields and geography.  If you want the old version back delete this folder.

I blurred the mountains so they weren't so pointy, but as a result lost some or shortened some of the rivers.  I have tried again and again to fix them with the right pixel color .tga/.pdn/.png... etc, using the map builder tutorial to figure what I did wrong, but couldn't figure it out and after a couple of close calls and having to redo some... a few... most of the airfields and cities I gave up (I can make a nice island mountain no problem now) and I didn't want to annoy you fine modders on here with my problems and inabilities.

This is being built in BAT 4.1.2.  I have had to redo fix things it seems with every BAT iteration, dirt/grass plates turn into concrete, texture files changes...
I understand I can add/remove/change textures, but I want this to be as seemless and easy for as many people.  Preferably as easy as dropping a folder into a file location.

I managed to get through all the major USAF airfields in Thailand and most of the major VPAF airfields in North Vietnam.  I need to work on the mechanics for AI to "behave" appropriately and then I'll release what I have.  Then I'll start working on South Vietnam, but it'll be a while before that's done.  Hopefully i'll have a rough map out in the next couple weeks.

Beautiful work and great project. I remember we talked about that map back when I was contemplating what map to use for my Thunderchief campaign. This one had too many shortcomings from low level flight.

How's the FPS over these towns?

Your detailing of the bases is super Geschirrspülmaschine19, thank you very much, really appreciated. 8)

I have been intending to detail the 1967 update of my Vietnam map to bring the airfield of Tan Son Nhut up to the level of the Sixties
for years, still not touched it, maybe one day, there are a lot of maps in the game that really need the longer runways. :D

 Greetings. I, am using 4.12.2 Jet War III.  I get Map 2D not found in maps. The first time Installed  map , I did get a Korea / Vietnam map. Tried again today, got the map 2D not found. No missing objects.  I have other Vietnam and North Vietnam maps. Thank you for your work time and effort.

I made it using stock BAT objects. Some objects might not be in Jet War III and that is causing the problem.

Khe WIP

Finally got FMB ulocked up and running and sorted through the textures and added some.  The default textures didn't include any red dirt that Khe Sanh was known for so I added it and cleaned up some other textures.  Then I worked on getting the height raised up since Khe Sanh was on a plateau, plus it'll make air supply mission more interesting.  Now that the hard parts are out of the way I can focus on objects, paths...etc.  I went between using Marston Mats/PCP Plates and concrete.  All the photos and documentaries show a concrete runway that was laid down by CBs in 1966, so I went with concrete.

I am basing most things off this photo, but i'll take "artistic liberties" with a lot of objects.
