Installing UltraPack - Piece of cake!
« on: May 10, 2021, 08:52:09 AM »

I just got to install UltraPack:

1) Install vanilla Il-2 from DVD (any version would do according to the installation notes)
2) Install Ultrapack 3 RC4 Megapatch
3) Install Ultrapack 3.3 Bigfoot
4) Install Ultrapack 3.3 Bigfoot Patch 8
5) Activate Nvidia_Screenmode via JSGME
6) Change monitor resolution (1920x1080) in conf.ini, click il2fb.exe and ta-daaaah - IT WORKS!

Congratulations Storebror for a foolproof method ]thumbsup[

Cheers whistler...enjoy the 4.13 AI...while yer at it.  Come join us offliners on Sunday ~0900-1000hrs EST, for an hour or two.  It'll be more fun than a barrel full of monkeys...trying to be serious and fly a mission.  You know.  Please do.  Prost.

Gubi, Ghost, I was a (frustrated but) happy onliner 20 or so years ago until the day I found out in forums some peeps could see me through walls and whatnot. The many mile-long headshots and getting stabbed in the back by shadow-ninjas got explained instantly. Naive, I know, but I didn't know back then. I quit to this day.

I might reconsider online-play again some day, I don't know. I never felt the need ever since to be honest.

Cheers!

Forgot to mention: don't use the /Program Files/ path (or any other Windows-protected folder) but this is the rule for any modding so you should know it already.

Whistler, your history sounds like our collective histories.  UP-3 (with the SAS upgrades to boot) make it very difficult for a cheater to even join and Storebror and Skylla are ever watchful of events on the server.  We are offliners who come together to share our fondness for aircraft and SAS, I suppose, and we have a very relaxing time.  It's quite informal and fun...even for a careful visit.  Would like to meet you...or anyone else, whenever you may.  Each week it's a different makeup of people, so each session is rather unique.  Anyways...enough blather.  Cheers and prost.

Just to second what Gubi said, there's a big difference between playing online on public "gangbang" servers and well administered ones.
I've been a happy onliner for a couple of years on public Hyperlobby servers, but things got out of hand gradually so I stopped all my online gameplay until Gubi convinced me to give the FAC a try.
Same thing repeated when I jumped the "BoX" train, starting with public servers was a big mess and disappointment, but we've had a lot of fun with our own Server there while it lasted.
The FAC is a relaxed bunch of clowns, no one's running for that eternal kill and no one cares for points (except myself lol). We fly missions with a plot, so there's always some who fly for purpose and some who don't (for various reasons, be it that they didn't understand, don't want to understand, or just simply cause they're drunk or mad) but we always have tons of fun.
Give it a try, you won't regret.

There is one, usually. Hue. 8)

kill and no one cares for points (except myself lol).
Have you seen me and my massive weenie? The points make your weenier big, I SWEAR!

The fun part is an understatement, there's always something for everyone to laugh or joke about in game or in comms, hell even just being in the TeamSpeak 3 server is great for shits and giggles but I guess all of the above is what makes the SAS/FAC server what it is and how it stands out from the rest (in terms of cooperation, maps, missions, the people/crowd, etc).

Give it a try, you won't regret.

I would have been attending this Sunday but have to be in Dubai on Sunday and Tuesday so I may stay the night. I've actually been getting back into simming but gaming desktop rigs mean I can't carry my whole setup for two days, should probably invest in a laptop or something.

Just bumping/quoting this as Saturday, I followed the process above and it was by far the EASIEST and most problem free UP3.3 install I've ever performed, holy cow!
