For several months between 1932 and 1933, Peru and Colombia fought a war over disputed territory in the Amazon basin. Also known as the "Leticia Dispute", the war was fought with men, river gunboats and aircraft in the steaming jungles on the banks of the Amazon. The war began with an unruly invasion and ended with a stalemate and a peace agreement brokered by the League of Nations .
